I'm trying to connect to my media server via SFTP over the internet. I can do so via a pure ssh client, or even sftp with programs like filezilla on other computers.

But I recently installed XBMC on my ipad 3, and when I added the SFTP share it send back the unable to connect to server error. I downloaded several other FTP apps from the apple app store, but none of them could successfully connect. So it seems like something with SFTP on the ipad itself, since:

1. Multiple apps all have the same problem with SFTP
2. SSH works fine
3. both SSH and SFTP work fine on other devices

Any ideas?

I have the same issue, did you get anywhere with this?

try PuTTY or cyberduck they both work well
tip... your server is th ip adress of the device you want to get into
default username on both ssh programs is root
default password is alpine

Still a problem in 14.2.
