The only thing I don't like compared to the ATV2 is that in XBMC the video does not stop playing when you press the back key. This is annoying. I read that you can put in keyboard xml code to do this but am unsure of how to do this on the FTV.

Has anyone got any idea? Would really appreciate some help.
Try this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthre...?t=2736774, handy installer tool that easily installs apk files and folders as well as v3 remote keymap.

You don't really need the whole sdk, just the ADB. But i think that you have to download the SDK to get it. You definitely don't need eclipse.

1. You bought an FTV with XBMC? As in, you paid extra to have XBMC pre-installed?
2. http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Alt..._TV_remote

Edit: I checked eBay and there are, indeed, numerous listings for Fire TV with XBMC pre-installed for a $50 markup. Sad. Some ads even advertise the FTV as being jailbroken.
Colin: If you bought one of these, I'd recommend returning it (maybe complain about their false claim about the box being jailbroken, because it's not). Then, buy an FTV directly from Amazon for $50 less, so it has a real warranty, and follow the steps at http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Ama...Installing and spend 10 minutes installing XBMC.

(2014-05-26, 04:57)underworld123 Wrote: [ -> ]Thanks! If I inderstand this correctly, we are not changing the audio (assuming that audio is not a problem on fire tv) and only encoding the video so that it plays correctly (as video is the source of all the issues)

Correct, with those settings the audio will be untouched and will be the same as the source audio, the only thing you'll be doing is re-encoding the video.

As far as the audio goes, XBMC on the FTV will pass-through the audio (if your using a AVR) or it will downmix it, depending on your settings. Also to clarify, as to DTS-HD, XBMC will extract the core and pass-through DTS so you don't need to use the DTS-HD track and can opt to use the DTS track instead. However, I always encode (when possible) using the DTS-HD track with DTS-HD pass-through set so that my encodes are future proof.

I just encoded a video with the settings that you recommended. The resulting video had the video codec: H264 - MPEG4 AVC (part 10) (avc1). It played in XBMC, but I was under the impression that FTV did not play AVC1 files. Kindly advice.
Love this thread... Been browsing through before making my purchase..

One last thing.. As far as a keyboard..
Any blue tooth keyboard that works with an Android tablet should work right? I've got a small bt keyboard that I'm hoping will work.
Hello all!

So, I'm a pretty green newbie to XBMC - but I did get an Amazon FireTV and got it installed.

But, I am having one issue - which is consistently repeating itself. Every fourth video file I launch, XBMC crashes, and AFTV reverts back to the "Launch XBMC" screen.

Every forth file - without fail.

Running Gotham 13.0; and just installed the latest (claimed stable) version yesterday.

Any assistance? I'm not sure how to get / capture a log/error file, but if someone would be so kind to explain it to me, I'd be happy to post it.

Thanks in advance, all!

Am I doing something wrong or it is normal for a system like Amazon Fire Tv?
Smooth playback of a full bluray rip over wireless is not happening. Use a wired connection.
I tried playing full bluray rips over wireless on a Macbook pro which has an i7 processor and dedicated 2gb nvidia 750 video card with no success. I experienced buffering every two minutes or so.

It doesnt support hardware decoding of VC1, which is a different beast entirely.

Thanks for the info. That's great I did the remote keymapping with that program. What in your opinion is the best XBMC auto start to install with this program? Llama or Autopilot? I want to be able to go back to the FTV setting screen sometimes to swap between 50 Hz or 60 Hz output.

Cheers,
Colin

Thanks for the advice on Keymap. I did pay more than RRP but I'm in the UK and bought one locally. Less hassle/time receiving it and no import charges. Guess if it goes wrong I am screwed though.

Cheers,
Colin

I have tried both and they work equally well. The thing I do not like about using them is that you have to reboot (press Select and Play/Pause buttons til reboot) the Fire TV every time you want to have direct homescreen access to XBMC. I am hopeful that a launcher app recently submitted to the Amazon store gets approval ASAP.

Ahh...that makes sense. I got confused between VC1 and AVC1.

The crashing is odd. Did you disable 'Mediacodec' acceleration? You need to be in 'Expert' view when in 'Settings' to see this option.
