I have freshly installed KODIbuntu 14.1 on Intel NUC (D54250WYK), connected via HDMI to DENON AVR-1910.
Audio configured to use passthrough for advanced formats.

Whenever I play a mp3 file with 44.1KHz sampling, I can hear no sound. The same happens when I watch a movie with the soundtrack in the same format.
However, everything works fine for mp3 files sampled at 48KHz, as well as for other formats.

I've been digging around, and found a few suggestions in older forums that advise to add 'resample' tag to advancedsesttings.xml. However the latest wiki says that 'resample' tag was recently removed (in v13).

Can anybody sugggest anything I can do to have this problem resolved?

My kodi.log is here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/r5gnhcs94thbmhb/kodi.log
First I try to play mp3 44.1KHz (no sound), then another mp3 48KHz (all ok).

Thank you in advance!
Known ... denon vs intel incompatibility.

Use OpenELEC (or rebuild kodi from source and add patch [1]) and add to your advancedsettings.xml in OpenELEC /storage/.kodi/userdata/advancedsettings.xml (needs to be created)

Code:
<advancedsettings>
<audio>
<minimumsamplerate>48000</minimumsamplerate>
</audio>
</advancedsettings>

PS: If you don't want to rebuild. Set your Audio output to Fixed, 48 khz.

Won't this kill the ability to passthrough DTS, etc.?
Yes, of course it will - if you want that fixed properly, subscribe here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75037
And get them the relevant logfiles. As best with the latest ubuntu mainline kernel installed.

Code:
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.19-vivid/linux-headers-3.19.0-031900-generic_3.19.0-031900.201502091451_amd64.deb
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.19-vivid/linux-headers-3.19.0-031900_3.19.0-031900.201502091451_all.deb
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.19-vivid/linux-image-3.19.0-031900-generic_3.19.0-031900.201502091451_amd64.deb
wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/195395032/linux-firmware_1.141_all.deb

followed by:
Code:
sudo dpkg -i *linux-firmware*deb
sudo dpkg -i *3.19*deb

please

Next is, edit /etc/default/grub

and add drm.debug=0xe in the line where you find "quiet splash" to make it look like "quiet splash drm.debug=0xe"
finally:
Code:
sudo update-grub
sudo reboot

Then play something in xbmc and save: dmesg > mydmesg.txt and upload this to the bugreport.

Thank you very much in advance.
I've upgraded kernel to 3.19 and updated grub as you suggested.

My kodi.log is here: http://pastebin.com/gydPndKZ
My gmesg.log is here: http://pastebin.com/Zg3FdMHS

An interesting detal (reflected in the session recorded in kodi.log) :
- first I try to play an mp3 file (44.1KHz) - it plays !
- then I try to play another mp3 file (48KHz) - it plays
- then I try to play a video with audio track in mp3 (44.1KHz) - it does not play
- then I try to play first mp3 file (44.1KHz) again - now it does not play !
- then I try to play second mp3 file (48KHz) again - it plays
- then I try to play first mp3 file (44.1KHz) again - now it plays !

It looks like playing a video with audio track in mp3-44.1KHz (no sound) turns off the ability to play mp3-44.1KHz, but playing a mp3-48KHz restores the ability to play mp3-44.1KHz.

Please let me know if I can help you investigate this issue further.
Another issue (not sure if related) - there no sound after waking up from standby.

Please upload all those files to the bugreport. We cannot expect the intel folks reading our forum, please.

The mp3 you played was played at 48 khz!

Please - make fully sure, that you test in a sane way. Also make a screenshot of your Audio Settings. Setting them to "Best Match" will make sure, that every audio title is played back at the original rate.
Edit: btw. you can easily verify with menu sounds.

You should not hear them at all with "Best Match" Settings. But after doing: DISPLAY=:0 xrandr -r 30 - they should appear magically. If that's the case - you are affected with the very same bug referenced on freedesktop.
Here is the snapshot of my Audio settings

Good - that's fine. can you verify the Menu sounds?

Btw. also get me:

DISPLAY=:0 /usr/lib/kodi/kodi-xrandr | pastebinit

so that we can see which modes to test.

Are menu sounds encoded with sampling rate of 44.1 KHz ??

The issue I'm experiencing seems to be specific for 44.1 KHz mp3s.
