Why is madVR trying to change your screen refresh frequency to 144Hz?
I have no idea, but the display change happens from monitor capable of 60hz to one capable of 144hz
just noticed these lines in my kodi log, dont know if they can have anything to do with it,

No clue. Does MPC-HC work correctly? Try launching it from Kodi.
MPC-HC works with no problems

You could experiment with using madVR or Kodi to do the refresh rate switching.

Without a DSPlayer developer, you can't fix anything.
Disabling refresh rate switching in kodi seems to have fixed the problem, thanks for your help.

I am using the latest Nvidia driver with a GTX 750 Ti and madVR is working fine.

Thanks
Hello,

since three weeks I try to get 4K HEVC content running on Kodi and now I'm trying to setup DSPlayer but a think I need some help.

my setup:
- Windows 7 Enterprise 64 Bit
- Kodi 16.1 with DSPlayer
- AMD Athlon 5350 (4x 2,05 GHz, Kaveri), 8 GB DDR3 1.600 MHz, 250GB Samsung EVO 850 SSD for Windows and Kodi (~550 MB/s)
- Radeon RX 460 with native support for h.264 and HEVC, driver version: Crimson v16.8.3 (the newest 16.9.1 beta doesn't work correctly)
- Desktop-Solution is about 1024x768 and Kodi solution 3840x2160px (automatic switching by kodi).

On Media Player Classic (64 bit and 32 bit) all runs fine, some 10 Bit HEVC files I testet cause less than 30% cpu usage, which is normal for windows and some programs at the background. MPC uses LAV splitter and LAV decoder with native DXVA2 rendering on the Radeon GPU.

But with DSPlayer (I used the tutorial here: Windows - HOW TO - Configure Kodi DSPlayer with LAV Filters, XySubFilter & madVR) I got 2 problems, or 1 problem with 2 alternatives...

1.) when using "DXVA native" option in LAV the video playback of HEVC files is invisible, screen stays black, but I can hear the audio and it's not stuttering
2.) when using "DXVA copy back" option then video playback is shown, but stuttering extreme (unwatchable), and cpu usage is about 90 to 100%

first screenshot is a h.264 AVC file with causes no problems, the rest is from the same HEVC file.

I tried different options like DSPlayer "fullscreen exclusive" on/off, different audio decoder, "refresh rate" controled by kodi on/off, some different drivers for the Radeon RX 460, I tried the same testfile located on HTPC harddisc (SSD is just for programs, a WD Black with 7.200rpm for some mediafiles) and located on a second computer via windows share (GBit ethernet, while playback the bandwith usage is about 9 to 15%).

But it seems like it's all the same: DXVA copy back causes stuttering, and native mode is with black screen.

So does anybody have any idea or maybe a solution for this?
Hi, all DXVA decoding is broken on all RX cards, i've been trying to get some TECH sites to pickup on this but nobody seems to care that the new RX cards cant hardware decode H264 or H265.

Scandalous that no tech sites are picking up on this, i've mailed loads of them, nobody seems to give a shit at all that the new RX cards are essentially useless HTPC cards.

EDIT: dont bother trying different driver versions, H264 has been broken since day one, isnt fixed on latest hot fix driver either. I cant remember is H265 was working on earlier versions though but these had other issues so dont try them.
Let Kyle Bennet over at www.hardocp.com or hardforum.com know about it. Or, let Steve there know and he will make a news item out of it

I can't agree with you because with MPC and LAV my RX 460 can handle h.264 and h.265 fine @ 4k in hardware, see few posts above.

Im using kodi 16.1 jarvis with DSplayer, LAV filters, Xysubfilters and madVR. Whenever i play a video it gets zoomed and i can only see 1/4 of the picture. If i use windowed mode it works.

Debug log: http://pastebin.com/Ldje1qU5

I have tried:
  • Fullscreen exclusive mode disabled in kodi
  • Hardware acceleration off
  • Uninstalling Reclock

Another problem im experiencing is when i open the property page for all the internal filters it doesnt show everything.

Thank you in advance guys!

You have increased the desktop zoom. That is why you can't see the entire dialog. This is probably a bug in DSPlayer. I don't know how to fix it without disabling the zoom.

Does MPC-HC work or does it also show the same problem? Try accessing video settings during playback to see if the zoom settings there have changed.

If you mean my desktop zoom in windows its set to 300% (default). I tried decreasing it to 100% but i still got the zoom problem in kodi and i cant have it on 100% anyway since my resolution is 3840x2160 and everything is to tiny at 100% zoom. If i press "\" button twice in kodi it works. But i would rather like it to work normally when i play a video without having to press "\" everytime i want to watch something.

I would rather use DSplayer. But i will try with MPC-HC.

Right click Kodi and pick Properties, head to Compatibility tab and disable DPI scaling. Restart the PC. Also, if you're disabling DPI scale inside of Windows, or set it back to 100% you need to restart the PC for it to take effect. But disable it on Kodi so you can keep 300% on the rest of the OS. Let me know if this helps. Remember to restart the PC before you say it doesn't work. Cause it's usually the problem.

When you're using DPI scaling in general, you need to take this into consideration when ever you install an "older" application or a poorly optimized app, since they don't do well with scaling. I have had the issue with DSplayer and various emulators i.e. my PS1 emulator, it did the 1/4th of the screen thing too. Just have to disable DPI scaling directly on the app and it works great. Good luck.
curael, thanks for sharing this. It's good stuff to know about.

For sure. Spent way too long on troubleshooting, I may as well share.
