The only way I have found to transfer the EPG data from my Mythbuntu box to my Chromebox is to reboot, but I have set my Chromebox to suspend rather than shutdown when the power button on the remote is pressed. Is there a more "family-friendly" way to update the EPG data?

Try this....
SYSTEM > LIVE TV > EPG
Click on "Reset the EPG database"
You might be able to map a key/button on your remote to the command...
