I have paid service at home but Im setting up a Pi for media use in the car with KODI. I cant find an add on for Direct. Should I be going about this in a different way? I also want to be able to stream music and have local music files.
i personally use subsonic to stream my music collection from home. in terms of streaming directtv I don't believe you can from kodi. If you can get a slingbox or hdhr working with emby for direct tv you may have a shot though.
so are there no other ideas from the community?

You can use a web browser to watch many of the paid channels. You have to login. You have to go to the individual channel and login, at least that's how it works with cable.
