Full Version: Reusing old Mobile for Kodi, what is the best way to access

I have an old Nexus 4, with slightly broken screen around the home button.

Been thinking what to do with it, so maybe setup as a Kodi Box.

I imagine I can load Kodi on it plug in HDMI mini, however it is the general access and controlling I am thinking of.

I could use Kore as a remote on my other mobile however what is a good way to remote in to it to access etc, as it will spend most of it's life behind the tv?

Thanks
Bluetooth remote? The replacement Fire TV stick BT remote should work well.
1. You can set Kodi as default launcher so it'll always be ready to use, no need to access to your phone just to open the app everytime you need it.

I recommend using SPMC:
http://spmc.semperpax.com

Download the "Launcher APK" version.

Or install this app from Play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...mclauncher

It works with Kodi official and some non official Kodi forks like e.g: SPMC, also works with PLEX app.
Remember that you can access all your Android apps from Programs menu within Kodi and to revert Kodi as default launcher you can open Settings app> Home and change default launcher.

2. In case you don't want to have Kodi running all the time and just manually open it everytime you need it then an option would be to use a Server/Client Remote app like DroidMote (YOU NEED ROOT to run DM Server app --> Nexus 4) to control your Nexus 4 from another smartphone.

3. Use a dedicated RF or BT remote control. You'll need an USB Hub to plug in the usb remote adapter and any other peripheral you may need.
