I am considering replacing my internal TV tuners with some network tuners instead.

I would be really grateful to know, from any one using them, whether they cause any problems in terms of traffic on your network.

I have a gigabit network and would ideally like to have two DVB-T2 and two DVB-S2 tuners.

Worst case scenario might be recording 4HD streams whilst streaming another 3HD streams to three clients.

Is this sort of set up likely to cause any problems?
You have some recordings already from your existing tuners. Do the math. But I know plenty of people do similar things, even on 100 m networks. You might like to consider using a separate network segment between your tuners and your server.
Where do you find a network DVB-S2 tuner? Or do you really mean USB-connected?
I have 3 HDHomeRun Prime units on my network. US cable streams are generally larger/higher bandwidth than DVB; in general a cable stream is about 12-18 Mbps, so 100Mbps connection is sufficient for 3-4 streams for a device onto the network.

My network is mostly gigabit wired, but my network tuners are limited to 100Mbps (because of hardware/firmware issues, not for network issues). I have no problems with 5 HD streams being recorded onto a NAS also on the GbE network.

As far as traffic causing issues with my network and congestion, the only time I have noticed problems is also when I am downloading torrents. Otherwise, there is no problem. Of course, your experience may differ, but I have had no problems with 7 HD streams recording/streaming to NAS and across to other devices in the past.

There are quite a few out there, like this one:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Megasat-SAT-IP-...s=sat%3CIP

I really need dual DVB-T2 and DVB-S2, so was considering this:

Thank you - that is really good to know that it should be possible to do what I am after.

Is interesting to note the suggestion of a separate network section too - just in case I do have any traffic problems. Would this involve putting a second network card in my Server and having this directly connected to the network tuner?

I did do a quick bit of research and gigabit switches (in real terms) offer about 400Mbps speeds. The maximum speed of an HD DVB stream seems to be 10Mbps. Based upon this, my worst case scenarios of 4HD streams being recorded whilst streaming 3 more, only equates to 70Mbps. Massive simplification, I know, but it does seem that I shouldn't have a problem.

Ahhh, okay, you're in Europe. I keep forgetting that you guys over there have nice things that don't work for us on this side of the Atlantic (on this day I'm tempted to add "including elections", but I don't want to turn this into a political discussion!) Wink
vbox have the perfect product for you :-)
have a look at the xti3340 it's a quad network tuner with recording capabilities 2x DVB-S/S2 and 2x DVB-T2
And have a great Kodi integration

Only one stream per tuner?

I am in the UK, so I am not sure if that really counts of Europe any more. Interesting times ahead for us both!

Having thought about things a little bit more, I have decided to get rid of my satellite dish and stick to DVB-T2 only - the difference in channel choice (for me) is negligible and I find DVB-T2 much more flexible (easier to record multiple recordings on a single tuner, not having a separate coax for each tuner).

Ideally, therefore, I am now looking for a device has four DVB-T2 tuners in it.

This device seems to fit:

https://digitaldevices.de/products/netwo...net_c2_4t/

though it is pretty pricey.

I have had a look around the net and it really does seem that that HDHomeRuns are the network tuner of choice - what is it that makes them so good? Would it be worth me buying a couple of these instead?

Although cheaper, two HDHomeRuns have the slight disadvantage that they only have fast ethernet speeds, I would have to use two ethernet spaces on my switch (rather than one) and I would have to power two devices as opposed to one.
The HDHomeRun tuners are not yet DVB-T2 certified. I know that Germany is about to get rid of DVB-T and go all in on DVB-T2 (including H.265), so I'm not sure how that affects the UK; but there are still some lingering issues. There's a thread over at the SiliconDust forums about this.
I've got a HDHomeRun dual tuner with a softcam and next to that two FloppyDTV tuners with an Alphacrypt CAM each.
DVBLink seems to be able to handle everything on my network just fine. Most HD streams are 3-4 mbps. Not an issue in my opinion.

In the long run I am looking to replace all tuners with one HDHomerun quad tuner. That way I can switch to a less power consuming HTPC as well.

Only issue I currently have is that Kodi every now and then has a slight stutter in live TV until I reboot the computer or put it to sleep and wake it again. No clue yet what causes it. If I select live TV on VLC or something else on the same machine there is no issue.
Hi Plantje,

I a so glad that you referred to that HDHomerun quad tuner - seems to be called HDHomerun Expand and I never knew it existed.

https://www.silicondust.com/product/hdhomerun-expand/

As I mentioned above, the fact that I would have to use two HDHomeruns meant that I would have to use two separate ethernet feeds, this device is absolutely perfect.

Based upon your name, may I assume that you are in the Netherlands? If so, is this device available there?

I cannot seem to find it available anywhere in the UK.

That device seems to be DVB-C only and not DVB-T2?
Did you find something suitable at a reasonable price?
I have not found anything to suit Sad

My apologies, I don't think I ever responded to this.

This device can be ordered from Amazon and shipped to the Netherlands. Most likely to the UK as well. And I think you can order directly from their website as well.

And yes, it is only DVB C
Thanks for that.

Unfortunately, DVB-C won't work here in the UK for terrestrial TV - a real shame as if a DVB-T2 version were available, I am sure they would sell loads of them.

I even wrote to SiliconDust to ask if they ever have any plans for a quad DVB-T2 Expand and they confirmed that they have no intention of doing so.

I am currently planning to switch to the satellite route with one of these instead:

http://www.conrad-electronic.co.uk/ce/en...IGIBIT-R-1

Should work just as well.

The reason that I have left things until now was that I watch "Dave" a lot and it was missing from the 28.2e satellite feed. However, it has just moved across, so I can go ahead with my new set up now.
