Just did my first update to Kodi 17 on Ubuntu 32 bit

This system is an Intel D525 based Compaq

At start up I get the flashing custom splash screen saying something like
"Add-on Migration in progress, Please wait"

followed by a tearing and flickering screen, but most of the time is black. I can only see that it is blue and tearing and flickering.

As this system is an old system with VGA out then a VGA to HDMI adapter , I connected to VGA directly with VGA monitor and exactly the same result

I guess if this is how this update goes on first system , I am reluctant to upgrade any more systems

Anyone have a clue??

Thanks,

Mark
I found a thread here recommending ubuntu 16..04 so I did the upgrade. No more teariing but now no video playback. I get 10 seconds of audio then nothing while menu of videos still shows.
I think I have the same issue. I'm on Ubuntu 14.04 and Kodi goes nuts when in full screen mode. When windowed it's ok.
Same issue here on Ubuntu 14.04.

I have been told to upgrade my kernel : http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=306799

EDIT : updated to kernel 4.4, still black screens/tearing
Same here,

i'm using kubuntu 14.04 (Kernel 3.13.0-108). Kodi 16 worked well and without any problems. Today I upgraded to 17 and the whole UI was either flickering or a black screen.
I will try and upgrade my kernel. If that doesn't work I have to downgrade kodi I suppose.
Info: Upgrading the Kernel helped. I followed the instructions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack.
I'm on 16.04, latest kernel, same exact problem on three different PCs. Kodi is completely unusable now. Sad
Ok. I've found a solution. The problem is with graphics card driver. I've changed it from X.org drivers to Nvidia 340.
Probably not the best way, but Kodi runs good now.
Same problem here, flickering with Ubuntu 14.04 and opensource amd graphics drivers.
The problem exist only at full screen, window mode is working correct.
Also tvheadend client doesn't exist.

How can i rollback to 16.1?
The problem solved after the upgrade 14.04 --> 16.04
Okay, i found solution for trusty here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnable...rusty_Tahr
Just update system with -lts-xenial packages and install new drivers "mesa-vdpau-drivers-lts-xenial". No need to install mainline kernel 4.7 or higher, no need to disable radeon.dpm.
Maybe need to run "update-grub" after installing new lts kernel.
hu,an error
