I tried searching for a few variations on this but didn't find anything, it's probably been brought up before but I might as well add my voice to the chorus!
I'd love to see a slider that indicates and allows you to control your position during movie and music playback, like in Windows Media Player, Zoom Player etc. (see the blue bar below):
Thanks for a great media center folks, I (and more importantly my wife) love it so far!
I may be wrong but i think what he means is the ability to drag or click on the progress bar to skip around in the video, which isn't currently possible. It has been requested in the not too distance past though. I don't recall what the devs said about it.
That's exactly what I'm looking for timdog82001, it's much faster to zip around a video when you can point and click at a slider instead of using fast forward buttons. I'd also love to see time indicators (time played, time remaining etc.) when I wave the mouse while watching a movie, as all I see now is the X-shaped button bar but that may be a function of the PM3.HD skin I'm using.
http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/5096 is a trac ticket for just this thing, so you should probably post any ideas there. In regards to time indicators showing up, thats possible to skin but but just not used, in pm3.hd at least.
this is a major missing feature of video playback.. all players have it except this app
this was requested 3 years ago and its still not done I gather
i see if pause it then a time line bar comes up but you cant even grab and scroll that
even a option to turn on OSD with the bar would of been handy on full screen so know how much has been played
Hi guys,
In most apps and movie players you have a seek bar, which you can click on and jump straight to a certain part of the movie - can you do this with XBMC? I know it's designed to be used with a remote (or Xbox controller!) but it'd be ideal if you could just seek to a certain point quickly... kinda like what you do on the Xbox with the right analogue stick.
Thanks
Use the arrows.
left/right skips 30 sec.
up/down skips 10 min.
In Advancedsettings.xml you can set the skip time.
Ahh, that's definitely an improvement over what I'm doing now, thanks!
But is there anyway to get the mouse to recreate the right analogue stick on the Xbox?
Nope. A patch would be most welcome though!
Cheers,
Jonathan
What about adding a video scrubber bar with mouse pointer support? The feature would allow users to easily click and drag (or simply click) the scrubber to the desired frame of the video.
This question was posed in the Windows support forum, and as it wasn't resolved (correct me if I'm wrong), it seems worth considering as a new feature.
I realize XBMC is more geared towards remotes/controllers, and wasn't designed to be a desktop application, but I think this idea is worth exploring. Why the apparent disregard for modern standards in media controls? After becoming accustomed to the playback controls of virtually every desktop media player application or streaming media player, it's frustrating to find the controls absent in a program as powerful and well-thought-out as XBMC.
It's little stuff like this that prevents my household from using XBMC exclusively as a media center interface. This and other (seemingly small) interface issues like the lack of window controls (minimize window, maximize window, close window) give the program a tragically cumbersome feel when it seems like there's potential to make it much more dynamic.
Tough love, XBMC! :p
it's not a desktop application. all the stuff you are asking for are desktop application features which are absolutely useless on a dedicated htpc. you are comparing xbmc to desktop video players. try comparing it to something a bit more relevant. does your dvdplayer have mouse controls, ability to minimize/maximize etc?
The thing is, XBMC isn't only a dedicated HTPC solution. But a viable media library with a versatile media-player on a desktop PC as well. So why not go the full way and support those little tid-bits that make other media players nice to use?
I've read this thread, the ticket/trac for voting, etc... Conclusion: agreed with former posters: 1. this is standard in every media player (yes, application/desktop), as well as web-based player. It's the deal breaker for the 10-ft. interface for the living room, even though I use a remote and skip buttons. I'll have to stick with the forerunner for most all interfaces such as this, the antiquated myHTPC and Zoom Player for the time being. I do wish this project the best of luck however, you've done some very nice things.
