Got a follow-up email for linux for the ATV520. As mentioned earlier, the release is expected Q1 of 2014. I also have the single core running on linux and can't wait to see how the dual core works with linux.

Would be nice to try a linux version, but i find the android version enough stable and fast for my needs.

Linux is mandatory for the single core boxes, but on dualcores android is fast enough and you can take advantage of its features.

Picked up one of these ATV520E yesterday at CC, and it appears to be great unit, but it cannot connect to my NAS drive.
The NAS is a Seagate Central 4T. I can connect just fine using the Android File Manager, but XBMC just will not connect.
I have a Windowws server also and that works fine with SMB connections, but not the NAS.

My windows7 XBMC installation has no problem connecting to th same NAS

I read several threads on the subject, checked my Userdata/passwords.xml file, and the smb.conf file in Android.

Since the box came with Frodo 12.0, I removed it and installed 12.2
I tried nfs, and smb://user:[email protected]/ and adding it as a network source...but no success.

Is it broken?

Did you just update xbmc or did you update the firmware? The latest firmware comes with 12.2. Grab it at mygica.com.

I am using SMB with my nas. No issues. I use a hardcoded ip instead of the nas name. Also I have no security set on the nas so I do not provide login credentials.

RE: Genaitech/Mygica ATV520, Android, XBMC, my experiences - vmstek - 2013-12-04

I only updated XBMC since the NAS was working with the supplied Android file manager on the box.
Does not make sense that XBMC cannot find it, when it is open in the Android file manager.

The NAS has a static IP, and I tried it's hostname and IP, with and without login credentials.

duplicate post

If you use es file explorer can you browse your nas? Oops never mind you tried the browser.

I'd still recommend the latest spi and firmware. I had network issues in general before I updated. Also mygica has their own frodo 12.2.

Just tried the firmware update...
copied the 2 files to the root of a USB key...went to update, only 1 file showed until I hit "menu" serveral times.
Selected the first .img (SPI), box rebooted into update screen and update Aborted.
Tried the "select .img" option but file not found.
Rebooted went back to Update Local, tried second file, rebooted and again, reports update aborted.

seriously having second thought about this purchase....

Unplug unit. Hold down button on bottom of unit. Plug in while holding button. It will boot to recovery.

Copy spi and firmware to a USB stick.

Wipe data partition
Wipe cache partition.

Install from zip. Do spi first. Then do firmware.

That's how I updated mine. I didn't bother doing via the interface.

Try that. Frodo 12.2 will already be installed once you boot up

As I mentioned here, I have a recent build of Gotham available here.

At some point I'll have to see about renaming the file with the git hash and date or something. Plays well enough -- wifi sucks. And despite android running at 1080p, xbmc seems stuck at a lower resolution... not sure if thats my problem or not.

RE: Genaitech/Mygica ATV520, Android, XBMC, my experiences - vmstek - 2013-12-04

where can I find the loaded firmware version? android settings about box?

RE: Genaitech/Mygica ATV520, Android, XBMC, my experiences - redi - 2013-12-04

not sure. in about in settings somewhere.

if you haven't flashed the firmware before and you initially had Frodo 12.0 installed, you weren't on the latest version

RE: Genaitech/Mygica ATV520, Android, XBMC, my experiences - vmstek - 2013-12-04

I figured that also.
The 12.2 I installed from the app store is very laggy when playing any video.

So I'll try your update method now.
When you say "install from zip", do you mean you did not rename to .img ?

Do you know where the XBMC logs are located? They are not in the usual Userdata folder.

RE: Genaitech/Mygica ATV520, Android, XBMC, my experiences - redi - 2013-12-04

yeah don't use the 12.2 from the app store, it probably doesn't have the proper codecs for our amlogic chip so it's likely not using HW accel. the 12.2 that geniatech/mygica provides is based off of a pivos build.

I believe the Frodo 12.2 packaged in the latest firmware is this one here:

and of course this is the firmware you want to use:

RE: Genaitech/Mygica ATV520, Android, XBMC, my experiences - vmstek - 2013-12-04

of course the Frodo link is down... :/
but I found it here http://www.mygica.com/down-eng/androidtvbox/
Now the recovery console cannot find the USB key....see if I have another formatted as FAT instead of NTFS
