RE: Radeon OSS with vdpau (howto) - Jan0sh - 2014-05-03

are we still in need to wsnipex/mesa
package?
Is there there still the need to install non official kernel?
thank you in advance!

RE: Radeon OSS with vdpau (howto) - fritsch - 2014-05-03

Read the first post - it's even in red. And for the kernel see 2nd post - last addition.

RE: Radeon OSS with vdpau (howto) - Artax - 2014-05-03

Are there differences between this guide and Xbmcbuntu 13?
Along xbmc, I want to have fileserver capabilities and amule/torrent.
From what I understood, I can install and configure this services in both this system and Xbmcbuntu, through ssh, in exactly the same way.

I don't have problem at all in following this guide, but if the result is the same than installing Xbmcbuntu, I don't want to waste my time Big Grin.

Thank you.

RE: Radeon OSS with vdpau (howto) - Jan0sh - 2014-05-03

On intalling kernel i got following:
Entpacken von linux-image-3.14.2-amdfixes5+ (1.0) ...
linux-headers-3.14.2-amdfixes5+ (1.0) wird eingerichtet ...
Examining /etc/kernel/header_postinst.d.
run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/header_postinst.d/dkms 3.14.2-amdfixes5+ /boot/vmlinuz-3.14.2-amdfixes5+
linux-image-3.14.2-amdfixes5+ (1.0) wird eingerichtet ...

Hmm. There is a symbolic link /lib/modules/3.14.2-amdfixes5+/build
However, I can not read it: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden
Therefore, I am deleting /lib/modules/3.14.2-amdfixes5+/build

Hmm. The package shipped with a symbolic link /lib/modules/3.14.2-amdfixes5+/source
However, I can not read the target: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden
Therefore, I am deleting /lib/modules/3.14.2-amdfixes5+/source

Running depmod.

Anything to worry about?

No.

RE: Radeon OSS with vdpau (howto) - Jan0sh - 2014-05-04

Hm today i did a apt-get dist-upgrade, after that xbmc was slow as hell and did not playback any files

I reverted those changes through dropping apts current package index, changing all lines in /etc/apt/sources.list from trusty to saucy, did an apt-get update and forced installation of (previous updated) packages through aptitude

The question I have is, why does xbmc break with those newer packages, and when will it be save to do an dist-upgrade again?
Or did I miss some important point like another ppa other than xbmc-fernetmenta-master and wsnipex-mesa from first page?

Thank you in advance!

RE: Radeon OSS with vdpau (howto) - Spacedementia87 - 2014-05-04

I seem to have a problem with the Webserver remote control.

For some reason when the screen has gone to sleep the Android remote won't work.

It won't work through the Web page either.

RE: Radeon OSS with vdpau (howto) - wsnipex - 2014-05-05

@Jan0sh: you probably didn't purge the mesa ppa before upgrade.
quote:
2014/04/26: Not for upgraders from saucy. Make sure to run: sudo ppa-purge ppa:wsnipex/mesa and ppa-purge ppa:wsnipex/xbmc-fernetmenta-master prior to running sudo do-release-upgrade - If you have missed those steps, you need to readd the saucy line of the mesa ppa, run sudo apt-get update and purge afterwards.

seconded..

Very annoying indeed. Attaching a USB keyboard and moving it around fixes the problem, but I rather control my system without any keyboards attached.

RE: Radeon OSS with vdpau (howto) - fritsch - 2014-05-05

Not a problem of this thread. xbmc trac is happy to get a nice bugreport.

Ah... stupid me.
I did not ppa-purge but removed both entries. I see that was awful wrong inany way Smile

I've followed the latest guide for Trusty but video seems jerky and I've got some rather bad tearing. Here are my logfiles, can you spot any idssues? Many thanks for the assist.

dmesg | pastebinit

cat ~/.xbmc/temp/xbmc.log | pastebinit

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | pastebinit

dpkg -l |grep mesa | pastebinit

RE: Radeon OSS with vdpau (howto) - fritsch - 2014-05-05

You did not. You are running a full blown Ubuntu with pulseaudio installed.

RE: Radeon OSS with vdpau (howto) - User 180186 - 2014-05-05

I think this whole guide runs fine on the current stable version, or am I mising something?

Replaced
Code:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:team-xbmc/unstable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xbmc xbmc-bin

with
Code:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xbmc xbmc-bin

Is it ok, or am I running into problems later?

RE: Radeon OSS with vdpau (howto) - fritsch - 2014-05-05

Yes. Current stable, e.g. gotham is enough. Make sure, you add the wsnipex mesa ppa to fix a amd driver bug.

Edit: I will update the howto accordingly.
