I am considering one of the small keyboard/mouse/remotes to replace the supplied one and better compliment Kodi, am I right in saying they come with a USB dongle and just plug and play?

Thanks for that, I'll return and replace it.

Thanks, does it work will with XBMC / kodi (Running on the x4 of course)?

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - Swindiff - 2014-11-09

Not got and x4 yet. But don't see why not.

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - dual_HD - 2014-11-10

X2 and X4 are not from same supplier, X2 is from Geniatech, has the record of doing XBMC box with Android, X4 maybe from another one.

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - bobones - 2014-11-11

Are there any custom ROMS for these boxes or even an MX Linux/OpenElec port? Does anyone know what board they're based on and who the manufacturer is?

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - D-an-W - 2014-11-11

I can get some screenshots if it helps you identify it?

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - Swindiff - 2014-11-11

Been trying to find a way to root this box with no success ?

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - D-an-W - 2014-11-11

I didn't look yet (If you meant me?), to be honest as it's my first Android device I would be limited to following guides!

No I meant I have been trying

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - bobones - 2014-11-12

My first impression after a couple of hours is that this box works very well with the supplied XBMC/Kodi. My main gripes are that an HDMI cable is no longer provided as was with the X2 and the remote has far too few buttons. For example there are no Info or PgUp/PgDn or play controls. I've mapped the menu button to play/pause when in full screen video and volume down is mapped to work as Info except when in full screen video, which helps a little. Most of the popular addons work fine and video playback seems smooth enough

I still prefer the X2 running MX Linux as you get straight into XBMC without messing and the performance seems just as good even though the X2 is an older box.

I might try running SPMC in launcher mode instead of the supplied Helix version, but I'm looking forward to finding out if Codesnake's upcoming port of OpenElec to the S805 will work on this box.

Does anyone know where you can download the stock firmware or have any other tips for this box?

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - D-an-W - 2014-11-12

I am glad someone got one who knows what they are talking about, don't feel as lost now :-)

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - bobones - 2014-11-12

LOL I might talk a good game, but that's about it!

To answer one of my own questions, here is where you can find the supplied factory installed firmware:

http://www.sumvision.com/product/cyclone-androidx4/x4support.html

Will need this if I'm going to be brave enough to flash some alternative firmware, e.g. OpenElec when/if it's released by Codesnake

Wondering if it's worth buying a remote with more buttons for this box, e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/231375013791?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&chn=ps&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108

Would I be to replace the remote.conf file with one for this device, or does the box need to be rooted for that?

I was thinking of something like this to help with text entry in Kodi...

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - bobones - 2014-11-12

Yes, a mouse and keyboard comes in handy, especially when navigating in Android, but in pure XBMC/Kodi I can get by with just the onscreen keyboard as the only times I use it is in initial setup of sources and the occasional search. I definitely would like some extra buttons to map to XBMC functions though, e.g. info, stop, fullscreen, zoom, pgup/dn, zoom, etc. I am using a harmony smart control with my X2 and it works like a dream.

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - D-an-W - 2014-11-13

That firmware link wasn't there the other day, good to see they provided it.

Is it safe to assume that will also restore all the apps that come included with it (Mainly XBMC of course)?
