this is what I got back from geniatech on the matter:

The interface of our system is 720p output, but when you play a 1080p video, the output of the video is 1080p resolution.

This is true when use just stock player, no xbmc.

oh crap I didn't know that, that sucks! Smile

so does the Linux xbmc run in 1080?

Although, I have not played with the this box as much I as I would like to. This seems to be what I experienced. My Samsung TV usually display any resolution/refresh rate changes on the screen, I can also press the info button and it will tell me the resolution/refresh rate.

When running the 720p firmware in Xbmc, I did not see it change to 1080p.

I found a similar thread that had 1080 firmware posted and applied it last weekend.

Xbmc does indeed play display at 1080p, but the interface is small and hard to read even on my 55" TV.

I haven't tried the Gotham builds on this box yet. I did try it on my tablet and found that some of the addons I use are incompatible.

I bought the 420E at Canada Computers and its the same specs as the 420. The 420E adds the external Antenae

does 520 linux image works on 520E as well?

(2014-01-15, 01:15)NINJAIII Wrote: I recently bought the ATV520E. Its all stock with mygica Firmware. Everything is working but I noticed in the XBMC Video Setting its stuck at 720P.
It cannot be changed. In the Android Settings it at 1080P 60HZ matching my TV. The Firmware is the latest. BTW I tried XBMC 12.3 and Video was choppy so went back to 12.3 and Video is fine.

Does it mean it cannot play 1080p Video from XBMC addons ? Channels ?

Yes, only difference is the additional antenna (e)

thx, how is the wifi performance on 520E? is it better then 520 due to external antenna? i have seen report of week wifi on the 520 in this thread.and can you put xbmc linux image on 520E and how is the performance?

I have the ATV520E, I don't have 520 (without antenna) to compare. But, my router (Linksys EA4500) is on the second floor and my ATV520E is in the basement and I can stream 8GB HD content via upnp from my raspberry pi. I haven't done any speed tests. HD streaming is through the installed media center app that ships with MyGica devices not xbmc. Compared to my Galaxy S2 phone and Dell e4510 laptop which do not get a signal in the same location.

This is running the latest firmware and some beta 1080p firmware posted here.

I had a quick look for you and yeah I guess a lot of US retailers only sell the ATV520 not AT520E.

Instead of wireless why don't you grab a powerline adapter and give that a try. I have a TP Link 500 Mbps one connected to my raspberry and I get around 85 Mbps.

The hardware on ATV520 & ATV520E is identical with the only difference being the external antenna. Agree with the power line adapter suggestion, fat better route to take. I wouldn't use wireless for streaming.

That happen once to me.

Try:
1. Disconnect everything and remove the micro SD.
2. Connect HDMI with TV on and input selected
3. Press and hold Upgrade Button
4. Connect POWER to ATV520
5. Release Upgrade button in 15 seconds

This will send it to a list. If it works then the operating system locked. From here you can install the android version and start all over.

Decided to update my 520 and I now have the fixed red light on front of box. I tried the method below and a few others. Has anybody managed to get out of this, I cant seem to find any solutions via google. TIA
