After reading this one wonders is not this an indictment of the internet. Kodi is in reality a browser, which enables one to bring internet content to the device as addons. The authorities are blaming a box (computer) and software browser aka kodi for the lack of policing of the internet, The Judge states, “The devices marketed, sold and programmed by the Defendants enable consumers to obtain unauthorized access to content for which the Plaintiffs own the copyright," if this is true why would not computer manufactures be liable also? What is ultimately at stake is freedom of the internet. The Judge nor the politicians making the laws understand. It appears no matter what Kodi foundation does in the future is going to stop the stigma of illegality that has attached itself to Kodi.

Good point, might as well ban all PC's laptops, tablets, cell phones, etc... as all can download anything they want from the internet.

PC's lead the pack for downloading Torrent content worldwide. Better ban Microsoft too!

You both miss the important points clearly noted in the article. It's very clear why the decision (and in general other similar decisions around the world) was made:

- all sold devices that came pre-configured to receive content that customers would otherwise have had to pay for.

- The plaintiffs found that the devices not only provided access to their content for free but that the sellers advertised their products as a way to avoid paying bills.

- “The devices marketed, sold and programmed by the Defendants enable consumers to obtain unauthorized access to content for which the Plaintiffs own the copyright,” Judge Daniele Tremblay-Lamer wrote in her order.

- Turning the box-sellers’ marketing material against them, the Court noted that they’d advertised their devices as providing a way to access free content and avoid paying cable bills.

This clearly differs from a browser, a computer, a cell phone, Google, Microsoft, or even the Kodi software itself, since while all of those can be used for similar purposes they are not specifically designed, marketed, advertised, or sold to do this.

This decision is not really even about Kodi (as a browser or otherwise), or about the hardware devices themselves. It is about people/entities configuring such devices and software specifically to obtain unauthorised content and then marketing, selling, and profiting from this.

Simple reading and understanding makes this very clear.

I believe it all boils down to the way in which these idiots were advertising and selling their boxes (preloaded and configured).Because in order to stream anything from the internet regardless of device used, it takes some sort of configuration wether being a 3rd party addon or downloading an app from the Google Playstore. So in this article, it even states streaming piracy is not illegal. Seems to be conflict of interest going on here somewhere. https://torrentfreak.com/streaming-pirate-content-isnt-illegal-uk-trading-standards-says-170306/

Until the industries losing from copyright infringement go after all the sites and channels distributing the methodology behind all these addons and wizards, then the dent it going to be small.

I did note however that one site notorious for disseminating such information, SEO Michael has completely cleaned up it's act.

Your April fools efforts made the local Birmingham press - http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/uk-news/kodi-tv-website-been-seized-12831077 - though I'm not sure they actually understood the point you were trying to make with it...

Yeah, I even made a post about it on HardOCP. I suspected it was a prank all along, but it did give me a good scare. With the jack-booted thugs in our government bought and paid for by the likes of the RIAA and the MPAA you never know...

This was both one of the best, and one of the most cruel April Fool's pranks I've seen.

Its funny it say NEW when Kodi has been around for ages but it is really cool how they promote KODI use correctly and advise against piracy usage.

"Most powerful" media center for Windows is a pretty debatable claim, I think. I'd argue that Media Portal could take that crown pretty easily, just because they also actually develop their own PVR system. Kodi may be easier on Windows and similarly powered, but most powerful might be a stretch.
