RE: KODI on Sony Bravia Smart TVs (2015) based on Android TV - ramizmo - 2016-02-17

Hi Everyone,

I have been reading the thread trying to find a solution for my issue, which seems some of you are having it. I have a 55" Sony W800C TV which runs Android TV 5.1.1. I am having an issue playing MKV HD Movies that are X264 compression, which basically 99 percent of my files. The CPU goes 100% and KODI-CPU runs over 100% and frame rate drops below 15 and the videos are just not watchable. I tried different version of KODI: 15.0, 15.2, 16 and all having the same issue. If someone can help with this, it would be much appreciated

Thanks,

R

It's Working! I just tried Kodi 16.0-RC3 Compiled Feb 4,2016. and its working with no problem. Runs all my HD MKV files 720 and 1080 wether it's X264 or other on my Sony W800C TV.

Well this is very disappointing. I was about to try a remove/clean install to try to pin down what is enabling 3D to work, when my TV notified me of a software update, which i let it install. Now the strange enabling of 3D mode in Kodi no longer works. My AndroidTV version is now 5.1.1. So bummed. Now i have to use the default video app to play 3D, Did anyone put in a bug report? I believe we think the problem is the TV does not recognize Kodi as a video app? I saw that somewhere, and noticed it in one of the menus.

i did a week or so ago, but dont expect anything to get fixed. i been trying to get this and the zoom fixed ever since 16 came out. there should be another tv firmware update first quarter of 2016, which might fix both problems if its a tv related problem. but im not sure since on 15.2 both things work properly you can press action menu during playback and the zoom works perfectly for 4:3 content to 16:9.

The work around worked for me until a bravia software update. I guess the work around was actually a bug.

However, there is another work around. The remote (android and iOS) include a 3D butworks which works fine. For me this is actually much better than the other work around.

Excellent! Although the TV Sideview app for my TV still only has an Actions button, i have an older Sony 3D TV and that remote DOES have a 3D button. It still causes playback to stop, but it pulls open the 3D menu and i can select SBS, while still in Kodi, and start playback again and it is in proper 3D! Cool - workaround. The Older TV I have is a KDL-46NX810 (So any KDL-xx8x81x) - so perhaps others can fine an app for that TV that has a 3D button. Also nickharris76 's tv KDL-43W807C should also have a 3D button.

Hi,

Great! I also have an older Sony TV with 3D button and it works like a charm. Now I can watch movies in 3D in KODI.
I think a ticket should be opened for Sony if it is possible.

One huge problem remaining. Live TV cannot be used because the picture of HD channels is jerky since 16RC and the CPU load is much higher than it was in 15.2

does anyone elses remote become unresponsive for about 10-20 seconds occasionally, not sure if its kodi or the remote or tv firmware, my tv is a w800c.

yeah i think its a android tv problem, as they just updated the sony firmware on the tv but the android version is the same (and its still doing it). sony 2015 and 2016 models will get marshmallow 6.0 soon, hopefully that fixes it.

Is there any way this 3D Button can be mapped using the Keymapper app or am I stuffed without an old remote?

Now Jarvis is out of RC I tried the audio pass through again... still only static!
Anybody else have this same problem with a x85c?

Debug log with AC3 and DTS tried: http://paste.osmc.io/wazopaliga
If there is anything I can try, please let me know!

I'm using ARC (Audio Return Channel) and with the build in Video app, both audio formats seem to work...

Hi,

I've an issue with my Bravia and KODI.
There is no AC3 or DTS sorround.
The system itselfs must be correct, because the native Video app works fine.

If I select passttrough, only clicking noise comes, the amp wont switch to sorround. It seems, KODI sends the passthrough as 2.0 stereo.

The issue described here: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=252064 , but I've been redirected here.

Please let me know, if any solution exists.

This 3D button controls the TV directly and not KODI. I have not tested but probably this button is also availabe in official Sony SideView remote control app for Android/Iphone.

The missing 3D mode in action menu issue is escalated towards SONY.

I first didn't see the 3D Button in the side view app. It is indeed there, when you scroll down. Excellent.
And yes, it works! Also playing HD videos without frame drops. The Kodi team did a great job! I need to donate.

Thanks for reporting the 3D button thing to Sony.
