Would this be a safe install?

I updated from 5.0.8 to this using the tar update method (put in \\openelec\update and reboot). There was no.zip or update.zip built so this is all you can have.

This is for the original X4 only. No support, no warranty, use at own risk, etc.

I've juts updated mines using this , it's working really well, video, wifi, and Ethernet all working fine

Don't know. I always had trouble with WiFi not working on Kerber's OE 6 builds after 5.95.3. Why don't you try the 6.0.1 tar update I posted? Copy to \\openelec\update and reboot. You won't brick your box using the tar method because you aren't flashing a boot loader. If you find it doesn't work, you can just reflash using TWRP or put on another tar update.

I was on Kerber's 6.0.0.2 before installing bobones 6.0.1, the wifi was not working for me on 6.0.0.2, bobones seems to be working flawlessly

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - bobones - 2016-03-08

Mine isn't 6.0.0.1, it is 6.0.1 so a later edition than 6.0.0.2.

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - Midnight63 - 2016-03-08

Just installed 6.0.1 and it seems to be working fine.

Many thanks for the update...

I'll keep checking in to see if there are anymore developments but I'm really happy with this little box and openelec Smile

To tell if you have the new stock without opening the box up just look at the bottom of the unit if there is a sticker saying sumvision x4 in black with coloured writing you can use the tv110 images.Smile

If the bottom of the unit has the sumvision printed on in white (no sticker) you have the new revision board.Undecided

New to this forum so please forgive me if I come across a bit untechnical. I've had an x4 running openelec 5.0.8 14.2 successfully up to know but decided to update via the tar method to 6.0.0 15.2, that's when I wished I hadn't, all I ended up with was a black screen and no signal on the TV. I reflashed 5.0.8 using twrp method and all is working again.

My question is can anyone point me to the latest tar update that is working well on the x4.

Appreciate any feedback.

I've figured this out. The newer boxes don't supply valid display capabilities when kodi is initializing (cat /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/disp_cap shows "null_edid"). On OpenElec 5.0.8 this is fine and it defaults to 720p, but you cannot change resolutions via the UI. On later versions, including the 6.0.1 I posted, kodi fails to initialize the windowing system and you just get a black screen. The rest of the system is working so you can still putty in and access the openelec samba shares.

I guessed that the only problem with the port on the newer boxes is null_edid being returned, so I patched the kodi code to first read the file .kodi/userdata/disp_cap before checking /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/disp_cap, so if you create a text file called disp_cap in userdata with some valid resolutions then kodi works fine on the newer boxes.

You can create a disp_cap file either puttying in and using vi or just drop one in \\openelec\Userdata after editing it with wordpad. Something like this will do (from 720/HD Ready TV)::
Code:
480i
480p
576i
576p
720p*
1080i
720p50hz
1080i50hz

but you can add all of the resolutions your TV supports.

Unfortunately, with Kerber dropping the TV110 I suspect this 6.0.1 with 15.2 will be the last we'll get for the X4

Here is 6.0.1 for original and 2nd rev. X4 (non-bluetooth) with userdata disp_cap patch:

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - mattedgie - 2016-03-26

Hi all,

I updated my sumvision x4 using the posts here using the tar method. Everything was working fine for a week or so but now when i switch the box on it freezes at the openelec screen. Is there anything i can do to fix this or is it the end for my X4?

Thanks

Matt

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - bobones - 2016-03-26

Try reflashing it using TWRP method (flash OE + original boot loader). Might just be a data bad block.

Will I need to do anything with this new build for the 2nd rev of my x4 other than flash?
Thanks in advance .

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - bobones - 2016-03-26

Yes, you need to do the update (copy it to \\openelec\update and restart) then create a disp_cap file in userdata. You will get a black screen at first

For simplicity you can download this https://www.dropbox.com/s/5060ipshkvrcxvv/disp_cap?dl=0 and just copy it to \\openelec\userdata

The black screen will change to Kodi when you copy in the file: no need to even reboot!

Modify the file above to add the resolutions your TV supports.

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - tanka3 - 2016-03-26

SmileMany thanks, I would've thought I'd of bricked it, if I'd of got a black screen.

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - mattedgie - 2016-03-26

Ok so used reboot recovery command using PuTTY and now everything is back working...didn't have to reinstall anything literally the box just restarted and logged straight into openelec and strangely i am now on Kodi 14 when previously i updated using Tar method to 15.2. Was this meant to happen?

Also can someone list the video settings for me please, mine is currently running very slow and jittery

Thanks

Matt

RE: Sumvision Cyclone X4 - bobones - 2016-03-26

There's no special settings - just make sure Amlogic hardware acceleration is on. 720p @ 60Hz or 1080p @ 60Hz is a good default. Perhaps switch off sync audio to display and match refresh rate. Check "dmesg" from PuTTY for anything weird, I don't think your box is healthy if it is slow and jittery so maybe reflash with update.zip file then update to 6.0.1 with tar method.

Of course you can put the tar update file in \\openelec\update and the disp_cap file in \\openelec\userdata at the same time to avoid a black screen altogether!
