I have just purchased a cyclone x4. I will be keeping my eye on this thread as I'm interested in rooting it in the near future. (complete noob)

I was an Android n00b too, trust me the hardest part of rooting this device now its all figured out is getting the SD card in the slot!

haha thanks, im just getting stuff sorted now.
been out and got a new sd card (16gb) which is fat32.
i have a usb mouse and a usb keyboard ready
and running through a few guides to try and get a better idea.
can you/anyone confirm what files i should have on my SD card?

after doing some more reading am i right in saying the first thing you need to do is get 'root access'
i do this by following this....
1)Download this files:

https://www.copy.com/s/gTN8CaZUbo2m/...INIX_X8_V1.zip
2)copy the files to a fat32 formatted pendrive
3) Follow the same instructions as per install a new firmware
4) You should see the recovery, Select "apply update from ext" then "update from udisk" then select the zip file there.
5) wait for it to install and if there's no error message you are safe to pull out the pendrive and reboot.
im an 'apple fanboy' and im familiar with the jailbreaking process, and ive once managed to bring a satnav back to life by flashing with non stock firmware etc... but this is beyond me at the minute...

UPDATE:
I rooted it, the did the OE flash thingy and it seems to be up and running. (Not tested anything yet)
Im having the same trouble as babba (post 102) about the remote buttons not working correctly...
will have another look later when i get control of the telly back

I haven't flashed OE yet, I do intend to though. Had to laugh about the TV control issue, I have the same problem a times

yeah the only buttons that work are the bloody volume ones... do you have root access? can you send me the original remote.conf file?

I retract the comments about corruptions as Kerber changed some stuff and it has been stable ever since.

i read through the posts a few times again late last night, i followed the instructions to the letter but the script was a bit odd..
it said e: unable to mount sd card a few times, but at the bottom it said ...done
hmm...weather it failed or not i can now power on with the remote.... YAY!
Its strange how the original remote.conf doesn't work?? I'm using the 1 you modded and its working great tho so thanks for that :-)
1 last thing...
box in standby, led = red
i power on and the led goes blue, after 5 seconds it goes violet.
?anyone else get this?

Unless you want to build it yourself, then yes you need to wait for Kerber. It's at 14.0-release so I'm not sure why you need an update.
