Hi alad26.
I have added the images within the skin as well.
The only way to change the startup category, is to eg. disable the hardcoded Videos section and create it as a custom category (you can add the same submenus, but not add-on shortcuts). This way, the skin will use a different startup category, depending on your skin settings.
Another way would be to directly edit the skin xml's, but the changes are overwritten each time the skin updates.

Thanks for adding "shorts" and for the other information.Will the custom categories be retained if I update to v16?. I just discovered I need "musicals" - there's an icon in the movie genres but doesn't seem to be a text icon.

Good idea to add those
All skin settings should be fine when updating to Kodi 16 - they were when I did it.
I recommend backing up your guisettings.xml file as the skin settings are saved there. In Kodi 16 they are moved to a seperate location.

Thanks again Gade. After years of just using one big music video folder I've got into the swing of adding custom menus and have started splitting my music and music videos into separate categories, so if you feel like adding items like "dance", "jazz", "lounge", "classical", "Xmas", "disco" and any other sub genres you can think of that would be useful to me and maybe some others as well :-) (and would be much appreciated!)

That sounds like a good idea.
The music genre icons are for that purpose and in Kodi 16 you can select several music genre artwork packs to go with the skin. That's one of the new features. Using that with the Extended List View works really well for me.
The first post in this thread has links to the psd and action, so you can create those category images yourself.
