RE: [RELEASE] Free Cable - US station aggregator - Gull - 2012-08-28

Except a few episode of ABC and NBC channels that do work but no other channel in free Cable addon is working and when i click any available episode of any channel i gets script and playpath error messages. Please tell me and help me out what I must do to watch all movies and tv shows smoothly and without any difficulties.I am using Windows XP SP3 within Eden V11 and outside USA. Thanks.

Enable debug log (wiki)ging in XBMC, attempt to watch a show and, when it fails, exit XBMC and review the debug log (wiki) to see what caused the error. It is likely due to geoblocking, since you are outside the US.

@artrafael. I enabled debug log in XMBC but still got script error message. All the shows do appear but when i click one of them i does not play. You may be right that this could be because of Geo blocking. What I should do then ? please any help in this regard will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Debug logging does not fix anything... it just logs (records) more details about what XBMC is doing to faciliate problem diagnosis. After getting the script error, you need to locate and review the messages recorded in the debug log (wiki) to see if you can determine the cause of the error.

Move to the US? Smile I'm not going to discuss possible methods of circumventing geoblocking, but as in most situations where you want to find information about something, Google is your friend.

Hi, and thanks to bluecop for this addon. I wonder if Proxmate could be used in xbmc to avoid geo-blocking.?Tryed it from browser(firefox), and it does work(I'm in Norway).

Any thoughts?

Im in Norway as well, i would recomend you to use the free and stable service from http://tunlr.net , works great all the time, from windows you can use a free program called Dnsjumper to change between dns services, if you are on atv2 you just put the dns address given in the setup instructions at tunlr.net in the network setup

Is there a way to make a video buffer to a certain percentage before playback?

Same here.. My kids are constantly using this to watch stuff online. And I would love to have videos buffer longer before playback. I have already changed cache settings but it doesn't make any difference. My DSL connection is fairly slow, but videos in XBMC/FreeCable pause and buffer more than if I watch them in a browser on the same machine. A lot depends on the source of the video of course, we can watch 3 stooges on WB with about 4 or 5 pauses during a 20 minute vid, but if the kids watch ninjago or something it will buffer constantly. I would much rather wait 5 mins for a vid to start than to have it start right away but pause every 3 minutes for the entire thing

(and no, I can't get faster connection where I live, not available Sad

dunnsept: You could always lower the bitrate in the settings. this should be universal bitrate limit across stations. It will use the slower stream.

There could be different types of buffers depending on the type of stream. http streaming will use your xbmc curl setting from advancedsettings.xml

rtmp streams are different though. XBMC uses some buffer size but I don't think it is configurable in any way.

from the librtmp manpage http://rtmpdump.mplayerhq.hu/librtmp.3.html
we can pass buffer=num "Set buffer time to num milliseconds. The default is 30000." to set the buffer for each rtmp url. I haven't had a need to configure that buffer. I tried a few times but didn't see differences. I could make this configurable in the plugin for rtmp streams.

Currently though XBMC doesn't not continue to buffer rtmp streams when paused like it would http streams. It will issue a pause to the rtmp server.

Also viacom stations are multi-segment http or rtmp split by commercial breaks. This will causes differences in buffering when switching segments. the stacked segmented videos unfortunately can not be resumed by XBMC. They seem to always start at the beginning. Some http streams can not be seeked with xbmc either.
