ATV2 vs ATV1 vs ATV 2nd Gen - bgizzle83 - 2011-05-24
I have been away from the forums for awhile and kind of lost touch with the development that is ongoing. There are some really great things going on here and I appreciate the effort the devs put into this. From browsing the forums it seems like most of the development is geared toward the Apple TV 2 or what I believe to be smaller little black box version with no internal Hdd. I have the Apple TV with the 160 GB Hdd and I think this was originally called the Apple TV 2nd Generation. Is the box I have referred to as ATV1 when using the support forums?

Bigger white box with 40 or 160 gig internal drive = Apple TV (ATV1), Smaller black box, no HD = Apple TV 2 (ATV2).
The ATV2 *is* the seond generation. I think you are getting mixed up by "Take 2" which was just software upgrade on ATV1 - announced when Apple did a kind of "relaunch" of ATV1 a few years ago.

I have both ATV1 & ATV2 & both run XBMC Dharma fine for my purposes.
