Amino Freedom - cosmo707 - 2011-05-24

This must be based on XBMC, right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qM6BKCG4fS0
How can verify this and get the GPL code from Amino?

- Robotica - 2011-05-24

Futher googling showed this company: http://www.aminocom.com The say: Vendor neutral open source project managed by the Linux foundation

is the underlying technology. Is that XBMC? Besides, they also use some proprietary tech like Microsoft Silverlight and Adobe Flash.

But if you are really looking for some Meego code: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=79100&highlight=meego and http://www.cybercomchannel.com/using-xbmc-meego-12

- arfoll - 2011-05-30

where do you get the info they are shipping the box with xbmc?

anyways to see xbmc on meego code go to build.meego.com and the project devel:tv:1.2

He doesn't "see" that they are as they haven't officially said one way or the other. It's just that it looks a whole lot like some horizontal themes.

"Silverlight" may actually be moonlight, flash is also probably a FOSS Clone since I don't think Adobe has released the ARM version. Also could just be buzz words.

Lol. Its an intel ce4150 it has h/w accelerated flash and silverlight.

P.s. Even if it was arm there is flash on my armv7 phone...

That's basically running Alaska Revisited; they're even using unmodified textures.

- Hitcher - 2011-06-01

So can they use our skins for profitable means?

- iammattsanders - 2011-06-01

Amino is a flexible hardware platform, the software it runs or works with is pretty flexible.

Also, to my mind, getting XBMC running on Amino would be pretty awesome in terms of getting XBMC a lot more exposure in a commercial environment and used in hotels etc.

Also, an upcoming product like the Amino Freedom Jump is a really ideal platform for XBMC.

If anyone wants to take a better look at these or wants some more product information, contact me via PM, as my company sells Amino boxes.

This is pretty useless info.

What arfoll said.

Hitcher: That's why we require a license on all skins. Alaska is cc-by-sa. If you would like to specify that your skin may not be used commercially, you can always give it a non-commercial license.

To say the least...

Also I think that "Vendor neutral open source project managed by the Linux foundation" only refers to SO or drivers and crap, not actual engine-middleware that's shown in the video.

Having a look into their crappy web full of BS all I can see that resemble an engine capable of what the video shows is this http://www.beesmart.tv/products/beesmart-middleware. But I highly doubt it is, as there are much many functions in that video and the UI looks nothing alike also.

All this smell like a big pile of donkey shit...

We managed to find out this much atleast:

Meego(-TV?) is based on XBMC but they utilize gstreamer (externally) instead of FFmpeg which is what we use

I'm hoping to be able to give you guys more info on that soon!

As for the Amino Freedom, it was demo'd at IBC and IDF and the MeeGo conference in 2010 with XBMC running with their player backend, however as far as I know it's never been shipped with XBMC and never will be. It was just a demo UI that I don't believe is used anymore.

The amiino site is not very informative, but I don't believe their market is end users... "Vendor neutral open source project managed by the Linux foundation" refers to the MeeGo OS, and actually the GFX drivers (and probably more) on that box are closed being a PowerVR chip :-(

The skin is all over the web also and none of the aleged partners has any software even remotly capble of what XBMC is able to deliver, more so, they advertise the product only with that skin and futures. And you say it's only for a showcase/confernce, talking about false advertisment and waste of R&D if true.

Also 95% of their IPTV solutions are advirtised as "Consumer products" (aka end user), and only 1 of all their products is kinda exclusive for "end user" by their market definition. Anyway I know the only goal of this companys is to sign deals with some big cable company or alike and push this down the throat of ignorant consumers, as this is the easiest way to make some money, along with profiting from others hard work.

While I understand you are not happy with companys being able to profit from FOSS projects, this is nothing new, nor is it illegal nor discouraged by the XBMC devs.

If you look up the Telecom Italia cubovision product (made by Amino), that is basically an Amino Freedom, and does not use XBMC. Consumer products does not mean they sell to consumers! STBs are generally considered CE (consumer elecronics).
