ATV2 + NFS + DVD Rips = No play - KarlAustin - 2011-07-22

Hi,

I've got all my DVDs ripped as proper DVD format with VIDEO_TS etc. and am trying to get them shared with XBMC via NFS (SMB was a no go with major buffering issues). Unfortunately when using NFS XBMC gets its knickers in a twist with folder names - It tries to load the VOBs from VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS/*.VOB

You can see an XBMC.log here: http://pastebin.com/6P4qKC6m

The NFSv4 export is:

/srv/films appletv(rw,fsid=0,insecure,no_subtree_check,async,all_squash,anonuid=1004,anongid=1002,no_acl)

I've tried it with an without fsid=0 and without the all_squash and uid/gid force, it's the same error.

You can see from the XBMC paste that it all goes wrong at line 49. If you look at the NFS log from the same load - http://pastebin.com/59MVGr6P you can see at line 4 it starts to try and load from VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS which is just completely wrong.

I'm running XBMC_ATV2 10.0-9 from the Apt repo on ATV2 4.2.2 (2203) with iOS 4.3.1 JB (and installed) with seas0npass.

[edit]
This is when playing from the scanned source - If I go via files it will sometimes start to play, more often than not it will crash (but that's a separate issue to why it doesn't work from a scanned source).

Thanks,

Karl

thx for the report ... i've made major changes to the nfs support latly and try to put up a current nightly build for keith this evening. Would be great if you could retest with this one then. So stay tuned and have an eye on the unofficial build thread in the stickys...

Hi,

Thanks, will keep an eye out for it and test, am itching to get this working. Had crashes of XBMC whilst scanning NFS source as well - Thread 17 again, with the same kernel error. So will test that as well with the new build when it's out.

Cheers,

Ahh now i see. Thats the problem of your crashes i think.

You should try to install the latest unofficial build (its not available in the apt repo) - and this should fix your crash then ...

Hey KarlAustin,

if you want you can try this build from me, it contains the changes Memphiz talked about. The build is 1c250ec from trunk (19.07.2011).

Hi,

Will try that in a moment, just giving the July 18th Nightly a go.

Thanks,

- KarlAustin - 2011-07-22

Well the July 18th Nightly still does the VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS/ thing Sad

It does play if I go via files, and gets further in without crashing, still major buffering issues - but I think that's my wireless more than anything (Just finishing up my network sockets to give it wired).

[edit]Ha, just as I submitted this reply it started to stutter then crashed. Will try with your build emkay.

- KarlAustin - 2011-07-22

Well emkay youre build has fixed the VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS issue and it seems to be playing the DVDs, I'm 2.5 mins in now - which is a lot longer than before.

- KarlAustin - 2011-07-22

Still getting some random crashes when scanning in content (MP3s in this instance). I'll get it set for grabbing all the logs later.

I assume Music is still a no go?

- emkay - 2011-07-22

I'm glad I could help. The next nightlies from Keith will have this fix as well, so you are good to go if you want to update at a later time.

I just tried this as well, but neithermy iso's nor the video_ts folders want to play on NFS. On SMB they are playing (although more often than not with buffering).

My setup:
IOS 4.3.2
xbmc nightly: xbmc-20111121-db7a8b7-master-atv2.deb
xbmc.log: http://pastebin.com/X4rr25GS

<edit>
Ah, just noticed in the log that in fact I've tried two iso's, instead of an iso and a video_ts folder, my bad. I've now tried playing a video_ts folder and that works just fine. It's the iso that's failing. Which made me think it could be the filesize, but I also tried a 7GB mkv and that played just fine </edit>

Euh, there was a pastebin of the debug log. Probably you just looked over it? Or did you want more? Huh
