RE: ViMediaManager - Media Manager for Mac OS X! - MariusTh86 - 2013-12-31

@Sevi: Try searching for '<trailer>' without the quotes and let me know what you find, if it's not there the movie might not have any trailers, try selecting one of those, press the 'Extras' toolbar button and select 'Download Trailer...', it should come up with a list of available trailers if any can be found.

@bricklemacho: Not a setting so much as a fix, try the new debugging build I uploaded just now and let me know how it goes.

Take Black Swan as an example...

The last line seems to be the one you want it to use but after updating and cleaning my library on XBMC, it still just saying "working" and then nothing happens...

Thx

EDIT: Never mind..

RE: ViMediaManager - Media Manager for Mac OS X! - MariusTh86 - 2014-01-01

@Sevi: Then I'm not sure what's wrong, pasting the last line into a completely unrelated .nfo file and refreshing the entry in XBMC using the local information seems to work.
Maybe it's XBMC, do you have more then one .nfo file which might be confusing XBMC? if you haven't already, try updating XBMC or make sure the youtube add-on is installed and up to date.
If anyone else can try and see if their trailers work through the latest debug build without downloading the trailer file, let me know here.

RE: ViMediaManager - Media Manager for Mac OS X! - codealpha - 2014-01-01

Hello,
I used to run XBMC on a PC. Now i´m moving everything to a Mac. But i´m running in some problems to get things running as i want. Mostly related on how to handle my files/folders with ViMediaManager and XBMC to get a self-contained library. I never used ViMediaManager before.

Basically i want that XBMC use the all the items (posters, backdrops, cdart etc etc) that i've downloaded and managed with ViMediaManager, instead of downloading and storing that stuff in obscure places by itself (for me at least).

I intend to document all the process in the hope to help others, but i need some help to clarify certain things. There's a lot of documentation spread around but with so many variables, skins configs etc it's hard to get a sense of where to start or what to do first.

Since i have to start from scratch on my Mac, i want to take this opportunity to document it all, step by step. And so here am i.
I picked VIMediaManager to manage my media library and added just one movie to keep things simple.
I have selected XBMC as my media player in the dialog that appears in the beginning and keep all the default settings and naming conventions in the preferences.

After fetching the data here's what i got:
http://clipitto.com/5dXKfy

The nfo file was created by ViMediaMAnager during the process.

The problem i´m having is that XBMC doesn't use all that data.
It is just using:

- The Kings of Summer (2013)-fanart (for the background)
- The Kings of Summer (2013)-poster (for the cover)
- extrafanart forder (to cycle backgrounds)

Neither the disc.png or logo.png are being picked by XBMC. Now i know this depends on the skin and view types used. I´m using Arctic mk. II and when i choose in the view options-> show discart it doesn't work.
If i go to movie info and select choose art and then discart it loads the art downloader add-on and tries to get it from internet (that's what i want to avoid).

My question is how to make it pick the disc.png file that already exists in the movie folder instead?

Thank you

@codealpha:

You've just run into a very strange thing about XBMC. There is an add-on called Artwork Downloader (I think that's the name). XBMC requires that the extra artwork (the stuff not showing up for you) that is stored locally be processed by Artwork Downloader before it is available to and recognized by XBMC. Look in the documentation for Artwork Downloader to see how to set it. Basically you set it to not download anything and look for it locally.

That said, I am not familiar with that skin and how it uses artwork. I use Aeon Nox. It might be best to start with the default skin, Confluence, and get that to work (assuming it can display those kinds of art).

Your wish to not have XBMC storing that stuff in obscure places is nice, but be aware that XBMC does cache all that stuff itself in its own database, even when you provide it locally. There's no way around that. But still I think it is great to provide all that stuff locally, because then if disaster strikes, or you just have to redo a source, you can quickly get back where you were. Also of course ViMM gives you so much more control over everything.

As far as ViMM, just want to make sure you know there is documentation for it - a user manual that comes with the major releases.

AH! We have to configure the artwork downloader to use local files! This is it! Thank you for your reply. I never understood exactly what was going on, and how XBMC managed the additional art files when i was on my PC. XBMC isn't new for me, but that bit of info was the piece that was missing to complete the puzzle! Now everything makes sense.
Everything is working now. XBMC is using the disc and logo art from my files as i wanted. Thank you.

I´m OK with it caching all the stuff in its own database. In fact it can be an advantage since i intend to store all the files in an USB external drive. That way XBMC is still be able to show me the cover, backgrounds and all the other stuff without me having to turn the external drive on.

What was bugging me was that i didn´t have any control of what it was doing, I didn´t understand what was happening in the background. Why it sometimes changed my covers after i setting them up in a certain way, or why it was using a different cover from the one i had locally. Now it all makes sense and i know where to configure it. I hate to have software messing with my stuff without me knowing what the heck it's happening.
I´m in control now Cool (i hope)...

Yes, I already downloaded and checked the PDF yesterday. Very useful and clear. Thanks for pointing it out anyway.

I'm going to test some more things and check if everything is working as expected and then document my "config".
I wish i would have known some details from the beginning. It would have made my life with XBMC much more easy!
Thanks for your help @Glorious1. Blush

Ok it seems like I needed to update XBMC.
Now, provided the additional line starting with "<trailer>" is included within the .nfo file, I can successfully stream trailers.
However, getting that additional line is not as easy as hitting Update > All unfortunately. When I try update "All", it actually does NOT write that additional line into the .nfo file but if I update individual Selections (i.e a single film at a time), then the respective .nfo file is updated and all works well.
Do you think you could take a look?
Would take me ages to do each film manually!
Thanks a heap.

RE: ViMediaManager - Media Manager for Mac OS X! - MariusTh86 - 2014-01-04

It should have added it as long as there are no local trailer files available and there are 'youtube' links, I've just removed the 'local trailer' file dependency so it should now Always put the youtube URLs in the correct place:
https://www.mediafire.com/?8j6ve2f4je6et

I've also made some changes to the way ViMM updates tv show airing status since I seemed to get some incorrect information back in the last build.

You can also try the 'Update Metadata' Button > 'Update Ratings' to be a little quicker, since that needs less connections, as long as ViMM 're'-writes the .nfo file it should work, so if it works for a 'manual' change it should also work for a 'mass' change, otherwise it would mean it didn't change the nfo file at all.

Both a manual and mass update re-write the .nfo file but the mass update doesn't insert the link while the manual update does.

This is the 'mass' upload .nfo file for (500) Days of Summer:
http://www.mediafire.com/view/11379b4o36yex3g/(500)%20Days%20of%20Summer%20(2009)_mass.nfo

This is the 'manual' upload .nfo file for (500) Days of Summer:
http://www.mediafire.com/view/llhulom8x23wfbo/(500)%20Days%20of%20Summer%20(2009)_manual.nfo

You'll notice that the files have different sizes and only the 'manual' one contains the youtube link when you search using either "<trailer>" or "youtube".

Any ideas?

Thanks

RE: ViMediaManager - Media Manager for Mac OS X! - garysday - 2014-01-04

Hi,

Just found this app, really nice... I am scanning through my DB now with this..

One Q, when selecting download poster / fanart is there any way to restrict the number of items that comes back, some movies have 50+ images and a lot of them are foreign variations etc, In reality i would like to be able to download say only the first dozen instead of all of them.

Thx for a great App.

G

RE: ViMediaManager - Media Manager for Mac OS X! - MariusTh86 - 2014-01-04

@Sevi: It seems you're right, though I can't see why this difference occurs, both single/mass should call on the same method to get the trailers, i'll be looking into this.

@garysday: Not currently sorry, ViMM tries to give the most wide variety of choices when manually downloading an image.

RE: ViMediaManager - Media Manager for Mac OS X! - codealpha - 2014-01-04

Ah, so there's some more people having trouble streaming the trailers. Mines aren´t working too. I was wondering where i had screwed up...
Checking for updates now...

Another problem i detected is that ViMM doesn´t rename the banner correctly after fetching and processing the data. It picks the name of the movie and does rename the fan art and poster correctly (in my case <movie_name>-fanart.jpg and <movie_name>-poster.jpg but for the banner it uses the original file name instead of the movie name it got from the fetch. This happens 90% of the times for me. Sometimes for some reason it gets it right. Hope this can be fixed.

Less frequently after a fetch operation i got en empty dialog box with a OK button. A few seconds later ViMM freezes and i have to force it to quit.
Still don't know exactly why this happen at the moment.

Despite those tree things this program is simply amazing. Very easy to use and has a well organised UI.

RE: ViMediaManager - Media Manager for Mac OS X! - codealpha - 2014-01-05

@sevi
I'm having the same problem as you. Can't get stream trailers. Like you, it seems to launch the dialog to start loading the trailer but 2 seconds later it disappears and nothing happens. I have installed the Youtube Add-on (but i´m not sure if it is really necessary for the streams to work).
I've the latest XBMC installed (12.3) and tried to generate the nfo trough the latest version of ViMM from @MariusTh86 post in this page.
Still can´t get it to work... Sad

Just curiosity: How do you get just one trailer link to youtube and i get a bunch of them for HD trailers, Apple, YouTube etc
Where do you control that?
