XBMC Remote Control - Trancer - 2011-09-27

Hi all,

I've had a search about but cant really find much on this. Is there currently a recommended remote control that works with XBMC?

I want it to be very easy to use and feel good quality in the hand. Id pay up to £100 if it was worth it. I'm only interested in using it to control XBMC, photos and movies.

Thanks Smile

I use the Rosewill RRC-127 for XBMC and it works well for being IR. My only issues, well my wifes, there are way to many buttons on it for XBMC.

$24.99 on Newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16880101003

Cheers for the replies guys, looks like u both use a very similar remote. I was half considering this Harmony One, but could be overkill. But then maybe it would be nice having just one remote, press a button and it turns on the surround sound too...

Also Beer40oz is that Skin one u just downloaded via the add-ons section in XBMC? and when you play a movie you get the file info, howd u get that up?

Take a look at this:

http://xbmccustomregis.sourceforge.net/remapping.html

Same thing on my remote when you install the software from them...... (my remote is the same thing just nicer)

The skin is called Aeon NOX yes from the skins u can download....

So its not just out of the box and it works? You have to use the tools in that link?

- Beer40oz - 2011-09-27

It works out of the box.... up down left right.... but to take full control as INFO and everything else..... even the WINDOWS green button will start XBMC... you have to install the software.... and takes you one minute.... there is only 2 files to install.... and thats it! can not be more simple then it is.....

http://sourceforge.net/projects/xbmccustomregis/files/XBMC%20Dharma/xbmccustomregis.v.1.2.14.exe/download
that file... first make sure when you install install what OS you have....

and then this one:

http://www.autohotkey.net/~Lexikos/AutoHotkey_L/AutoHotkey_L_Install.exe

thats it!

Bam best thing ever!

Boxee remote.
Works out of the box.
RF.
Simple. Small.
Has a qwerty keyboard on the underside.

Perfect IMO

i use this $32 Harmony 300i remote and wouldnt trade it for nothing else!

it control up to 4 devices and thats perfect for me!

it currently controls my HDTV + SoundSystem + HTPC + CableBox!!

finally, my coffee table is de-cluttered as i now have only 1 remote on it instead of 4!!

oh yeah and, to get it to work with your system,
you'll simply need a $11 USB InfraRed Receiver!!

Just read on Eskros post about this remote:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Noah-Company-MediaGate-GP-IR02BK-Ultimate/dp/B000W5GK5C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317124122&sr=8-1

So this would work out of the box in XBMC Live (Linux) or would i still have to configure buttons?

I guess the alternative is to get a flirc with a harmony remote? Any ideas which is the best option?

There is a market for a good XBMC remote because most things out there are either flimsy junk with horrible rubbery keys, or else tiny little buttons that are not family friendly.

Motorola Nxyboard looks decent but too expensive. Would cost me about €70 by the time I pay shipping and get hit for VAT. No way am I spending €70 for a remote when my entire HTPC including ram, HDD, wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, win7 licence, cost a little over €200.

I think the best solution is still a USB IR receiver and a good-brand universal remote.

Nyxboard is finally out today. Custom made for XBMC.
