which looks like its not,,,
have anyone try it with asrock smart remote package? it might be good to know what type of range it get with their whole package. if it get decent ranges, it might not be so bad for $22.99.

no, voip-ninja tried with another remote,,,

just to avoid compatibility issue, it's good to know the ranges of their entire smart remote package. i might give it a shot!

tell me how it goes

I only want to use my Harmony so I have no interest in how well the ASRock receiver works with their original remote control. When I tested the CIR USB the range was just a few feet, it was terrible.

I have simply gone back to using a "regular" HP MCE USB receiver and it is working fine, from my sofa that is 10-12 feet away from the sensor.

If someone wants my USB CIR to test out and play with, I will sell it cheap so someone else can play with it.

I found the very easiest possible way of getting my remote to turn on/off my xbmc system. I have a Eon TV Power Down plug (http://www.earthcareoptions.co.uk/eon-tv-powerdown.html) which is programmed to my xbmc power button (its a learning device). The bios in my PC is set so it will auto power on when power restored.

The remote already turns off the pc, and after a few mins the power plug then shuts off. Once i use the remote to turn it on, the power plug switches on power, the pc detects and up it starts.

No configuring, no difficulties, and consistantly works!

That sounds like an interesting solution.

Do you think it would be possible to use 2 and have each learn a different code? That way I could plug 1 into the wall with a strip into it and everything else attahced to the strip, and 1 into a strip with just the htpc attached, then have 1 activity set up called say "everything" which turns everything on / off and the HTPC device just does the htpc.

I don't know much about CIR yet, but I found these: http://shop.inteset.com/Products/5-ir-reciever-wcable-for-intel-cir-motherboards.aspx

I'm not sure if they only work for intel's motherboards or if anyone but intel makes CIR compatible boards...

but most asrock mobo has built-in cir.

What he showed is a USB sensor that outputs to a USB header, which is exactly what the ASRock and Intel motherboards need plugged into them for the motherboard to pick up the infrared signal.

However, the pinout might not be the same, the pinout for the ASRock can be seen in a diagram on this page;

I'm planning on testing a Harmony One with the CIR receiver, pm'd you.

I can confirm this CIR receiver does work with the Asrock E350M1 (not supplied with CIR Receiver in UK, but does have CIR Header.) but the pinout for the CIR Header is not identical and needs to be changed slightly to suit.. (simply remove the wires from the plug & reinsert them in the correct positions)
I found this info on the Inteset forum
http://shop.inteset.com/Boards/Topic.aspx?TopicID=75#208

I have it setup to power off / power on - work perfectly - range seems good with the remote supplied or my universal.

Interesting. I ordered something that looks very similar off of eBay, but it does NOT handle the CIR functions of my ASRock motherboard, it is also not advertised as being a CIR unit, which I did not notice until after I had already blew $25 on it.

so if one were to not mess with a CIR solution and just put the htpc to sleep rather than powering down totally...can the htpc resume from that state via remote?

sorry, xbox version user here...I'm considering building an htpc soon
