RE: OzWeather - Australian Weather Addon using BOM data inc. animated radar support - raspberrypie - 2023-05-30

No trouble connecting to bom radar on the other computers on my lan, either in a browser, or as ftp. They're all pretty fast.

On the pi4:

LibreELEC:~ # df -h
Filesystem                Size      Used Available Use% Mounted on
devtmpfs                  1.6G      4.0K      1.6G   0% /dev
tmpfs                   758.8M      9.3M    749.4M   1% /run
/dev/mmcblk0p1          511.7M    142.2M    369.5M  28% /flash
/dev/loop0              111.0M    111.0M         0 100% /
/dev/mmcblk0p2           13.4G    242.1M     13.2G   2% /storage
tmpfs                     1.9G         0      1.9G   0% /dev/shm
tmpfs                     4.0M         0      4.0M   0% /sys/fs/cgroup
tmpfs                     1.9G      2.3M      1.8G   0% /var
tmpfs                     1.9G         0      1.9G   0% /tmp

/dev/loop0 is 100% full - is that one of yours?

Your drives are nothing to do with me - OzWeather is a Kodi addon, only operates at the file-system level - so no idea what drives are being used underneath for what, sorry.  It might be your issue.

I did mean test OzWeather in Kodi on a proper computer - if that is going fast, then it's not your network.  So yep, look more closely at your Pi with top etc to see what might be going on...

RE: OzWeather - Australian Weather Addon using BOM data inc. animated radar support - bossanova808 - 2023-05-30

If LibreElec is like CoreElec, which I am sure it is, then it will be using this one:
/dev/mmcblk0p1          511.7M    142.2M    369.5M  28% /flash

So I'd say it's not a too-full issue.  Maybe it's just slow?  Or maybe your network connection from the Pi is just slow?

I'm sorry, just guessing really, but something at your end is being slow - the trick is just to work out which bit...

RE: OzWeather - Australian Weather Addon using BOM data inc. animated radar support - bossanova808 - 2023-05-31

Right, I have submitted the changes for the broken ABC weather video to the Kodi repo Gods (v2.0.7) - however, there seems to be a glitch with their addon checking/submitting scripts so might take a bit longer to get accepted.  Not quite sure what is going on there.

AFTER your system does receive OzWeather v2.0.7 (shown in the weather page under the radar) - please then re-run the Skin Patcher utility to update your skin files (again, after the update arrives) - as I've changed how the ABC weather button works.  See the wiki if you need tips on using the Skin Patcher.

Things should still work ok if you don't do the skin updating, at least for a while - but the new approach is better/more reliable, so worth getting your skin back up to date with the change.  (Note, if you do run the Skin Patcher before you get the OzWeather update, your ABC video button will be broken until the OzWeather update then arrives).

RE: OzWeather - Australian Weather Addon using BOM data inc. animated radar support - bossanova808 - 2023-05-31

(Did a version bump to solve the addon submitter issue, so it will actually be v2.0.8 that arrives once approved).

RE: OzWeather - Australian Weather Addon using BOM data inc. animated radar support - bossanova808 - 2023-06-03

That's out, so I suggest you folks re-run the skin patcher tool once it actually arrives.

(That being said - whilst the ABC is still calling these videso 'Weather in 90 Seconds' - https://www.abc.net.au/news/weather - the actual videos are more 'weather news' than the national weather report they used to be.  And not 90 seconds long, either, generally about 2 to 56 minutes.  Which is surprising!)

RE: OzWeather - Australian Weather Addon using BOM data inc. animated radar support - bossanova808 - 2023-06-05

Unfortunately, despite the ABC labelling the video here:  https://www.abc.net.au/news/weather - as Weather in 90 Seconds, and despite it actually being so for a few days...it turns out it is not always so

...e.g. today the thumb is still 'Weather in 90 Seconds' - but the video is 27 seconds of a foggy airport, for some reason.

So, am working on a new fix - will test for a few days before submitting, but the fix for the fix is here: https://github.com/bossanova808/weather.ozweather/commit/4296bd779e1b18c40dba370fff6f9faa74769167 - should anyone want to try it out in the meantime.

RE: OzWeather - Australian Weather Addon using BOM data inc. animated radar support - bossanova808 - 2023-06-06

v2.0.9 with corrected fix for the ABC weather video has been submitted - pretty sure it will be ok from here!

RE: OzWeather - Australian Weather Addon using BOM data inc. animated radar support - raspberrypie - 2023-06-13

Slow loading radar image problem: think I've solved it. I remembered it started going slow about the same time as the ISP had a DNS brain explosion. Web pages wouldn't load on some computers etc.

So in libreelec command line, things like "nslookup ftp.bom.gov.au" take ages (using the default DNS server) but "nslookup ftp.bom.gov.au 8.8.8.8" is really quick. So I've changed libreelec's DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and everything's fast again. Most of my other computers already used those DNS servers in preference to the ISP's (I changed them ages ago) so were not showing the problem.

ps Wish the ABC would just go back to showing the weather around Australia in 90 seconds...

RE: OzWeather - Australian Weather Addon using BOM data inc. animated radar support - bossanova808 - 2023-06-13

Glad you worked it out

Personally I use a PuiHole with the upstream DNS being CloudFlare. Works a treat and yep, ISP DNS is the pits.

OzWeather not working - awfma - 2023-09-06

Hi,
OzWeather seems to have stopped working recently.
Attached below is the log file.
https://paste.kodi.tv/raw/puyafihuja
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Apologies - the Kodi forum didn't email me about this, so I didn't see your message.

At first glance that looks like some sort or Python packaging issue.  Looks like you're running a rather old Kodi (22-07 - Matrix?) and old Python (3.6) - I haven't used Matrix for a while...any reason you're not on Nexus?

Also, that's not a debug log, right?  If you could paste a debug log that might help a bit.

RE: OzWeather - Australian Weather Addon using BOM data inc. animated radar support - awfma - 2023-09-28

Hello,

I think this is the full debug log for the old Kodi Matrix.  Please tell me if I still get it wrong.
https://paste.kodi.tv/qukezunage

I have also installed a brand new copy of Kodi Nexus, but it seems the same error is happening.  Full debug log is attached below.

Let me know your thoughts please.

Thank you.

RE: OzWeather - Australian Weather Addon using BOM data inc. animated radar support - bossanova808 - 2023-09-28

Yep so *I think* the issue is your Python is simply too old...it looks like the Kodi Beautiful Soup module is requiring something ('annotations') that came after 3.6

I am definitely no expert on this, you might want to ask in the kodi Linux section, but as I understand it, Kodi Linux is the only version of Kodi that uses 'system python' rather than a version of python packaged with Kodi itself.  This means that if your system python is old, you can run into issues (e.g. Nexus here on Windows is using Python 3.8.15 as far as I can see.  I am pretty sure Matrix relies on 3.8+ (and I think Omega is  3.10+)

3.6 is now quite old and I think past it's use by date, so to speak.  Support ended for it almost two years ago (and the actual release was 7 years ago...)
3.6 -> released 6 years and 9 months ago (22 Dec 2016)  Support Ended 1 year and 9 months ago (23 Dec 2021)

You might want to check with others that know more about Kodi & python packaging - but I think if you update to a newer Python (looke like you need 3.7+ - https://peps.python.org/pep-0563/) - your issues will likely go away.

Code:

File "/opt/Kodi20/.kodi/addons/script.module.beautifulsoup4/lib/bs4/css.py", line 5, in <module>
import soupsieve
File "/opt/Kodi20/.kodi/addons/script.module.soupsieve/lib/soupsieve/__init__.py", line 28
from __future__ import annotations
^ SyntaxError: future feature annotations is not defined -->End of Python script error report<--

(Of course, be cautious here if you use this system/python for other things!)

Have just released my little OzWeather companion screen project - thread here: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=375174 and the project is on Github here: https://github.com/bossanova808/kodi.ozweather.2nd.screen
