In theory everything should be working on all platforms, but I don't have an OpenELEC machine with which I an test. Could you post a debug log?

To reproduce the problem and log a trace, I started openelec, selected the music menu in xbmc, and launched a random album on the top menu.
Skin is Aeon MQ5.
It seams there's also other errors and weird stuff not related with artistslideshow at all, i'll try to fix that if necessary.

I am also running OpenElec Frodo V12.2 and Aeon MQ5 and so far Artist SlideShow V1.6.2 seems to be fine for me here.
I just tried to play an album from the Music menu's "Random Albums" skin widget and it played OK and AS displayed artwork for it OK etc.

Looks like another freaking unnicode error. I really and truly hate unicode. I'll have to look at it more later. In the meantime, go to your XBMC userdata folder and theen go to addon_data/ArtistSlideshow. If there is not a file named migrationchec.nfo, create it with a text editor and put '1.6.0' (without the quotes) as the only line in the file. If the file is there, just change the contents to say '1.6.0' (again without the quotes). That will tell AS to bypass some migration routines from older versions that you don't need to run on a fresh install. Restart XBMC and then you should be good to go.

Actually, it failed when I play music, wherever I do that. It's not related to the random album menu at all, I was just describing the steps to reproduce the error in the debug log.
Glad to know it works with OpenELEC and Aeon MQ5, I hope it will for me too

I dit what you said, created a file named migrationcheck.nfo into /storage/.xbmc/addons/script.artistslideshow with content 1.6.0
Seems not to fix the issue.
I tried deleting the addon, then reinstalling, creating the file migrationcheck before the first error appears, still error.
I tried changing language from french to english, and character set from 'default' to 'western europe' with no effect.

Glad to see you were able to get past this. The issue isn't, strictly speaking, because of your language configuration. But you may have an artist with a non-ascii character that is causing the issue (or your username has one). I have been pecking away at the unicode challenges in AS for the last year, and I thought I had got them all. Apparently not.
P.S. None of the logs you posted are debug logs. Thankfully there was enough information in the regular log to help you. See the link in my sig on how to post a full debug log.

pksscuot, can you please check over the log file and see if there is anything wrong, I can run 1.5.9 with no worries. But when I try to run 1.6.2 it will pick up information already scanned but not gather anything new.
I then go back to 1.5.9 and all is well again.

Just an observation, 1.6.2 will work just fine after I have been running 1.5.9
If I start XBMC first time for the day and try to run 1.6.2 it will not gather any information but will retrieve information already gathered, then if I switch to 1.5.9 it all works again. It's as though 1.5.9 is able to start something it needs where 1.6.2 cannot, but it is able to use it once 1.5.9 has started it. If that makes sense.

I'll be honest, I have no idea what the issue is. What there is in the log file shouldn't even be possible. I've manually traced the code, and you are missing log lines that absolutely must be there. At this point the only thing I can suggest is to completely uninstall AS, delete the script data from the userdata/addon_data folder (back that up if you'd like), and install everything again from scratch.

Initial Support for Gotham
OK, so I've done a grand total of about 10 minutes of testing, but AS does seem to work in Gotham (as others have been discovering during the Alpha testing). I now have my development machine on Gotham, so I can start supporting folks on Gotham. I have also updated the Confluence mods needed for AS. See the wiki page (in my signature) for a link to the updated files and instructions on how to install them.

You would need to go to the XBMC data folder and then in addons delete script.artistslideshow and in userdata/addon_data delete script.artistslideshow.
You could also switch to the confluence skin and then delete it. I suspect Aeon NOX won't let you delete it because it's required for the skin.

Cetainly seems to work in Gotham but for some reason I can't get it to work in Confluence!
I had it working fine with Frodo, so after upgrading, I copied over the Gotham files but nothing. If I switch to Amber skin, it is working fine.
Haven't had chance to look at the logs yet but it seems odd
