What's the best replacement HDD option for an ATV1? (USBvsCFvsSSD) - tinybilbo - 2012-03-20

Hi,

I have just got an ATV1 from ebay, My Broadcom card is in the post...

I would like to replace the hard drive, to make it a bit quieter, and as well, (I believe) cooler.

There seem to be 3 options available,
A USB stick,
A fast Compact Flash card and adapter,
And a SSD.

Each seem to have their own pros and cons...

(From what I gathered from the forums,..)
SSD can burn out occasionally,
CF's are fast (but can be hot),
USB sticks are cheap and cool, but (maybe) slower.

I don't need everything to be the absolute fastest (i.e if boot-up takes an extra 10secs, I'm not bothered)
I would prefer, the option that produces the least heat (I live in a hot country, 25c-35c all year)).

At the moment I'm leaning towards a plain old USB stick, It's cheap (16gb for £10), and cool.

Can anyone give me any thoughts on the various options, and why I should (or should'nt) go with a USB stick?

Thanks

*edit* are there any major differences (classes) between brands of USB sticks (apart from reliability),
like there is between SD cards (i.e the class of the card)?
