Had a closer look - the top report makes much more sense. Are you getting a lot of playback issues? If not, unlikely you're hitting 100% during playback.

RE: cpu core 100% on idle - ericab - 2012-03-22

with mpeg or x264, i have at most 10..20 frames dropped throughout a whole film;

ive got my nas powering up now, and will try a new log, and check the advancedsettings.xml.

(i appreciate your help on this btw !! )

RE: cpu core 100% on idle - DDDamian - 2012-03-22

Np. If you're getting a fairly clean log, start up, wait 30sec, play about 10 min of a movie and shut down again before upping log Smile

RE: cpu core 100% on idle - ericab - 2012-03-22

ok thats odd;
so i mount my NFS shares through autostart.sh; and within autostart.sh i have the mounting sleep for 10 seconds while being forked to the background. if i don't have it sleep, i noticed NFS would try to mount the shares even before the NIC was.. initialized...and at that rate the shares never got mounted so i assume autostart.sh is run really early on in the init.d process..

with this new log; my NAS is on, and i can browse the shares via ssh, or samba, just fine, yet the log still says the directories are non existent...

***Edit

this is the new log with video play from NAS ---> http://pastebin.com/XGaesNZU

im in IRC btw if you wanted ^___^

A lot better for sure - didn't see anything obviously wrong. Some issue with the custom audio settings but it fell back onto defaults okay.

The pvr errors are all gone now and the advancesettings file is better - just re-enable your dirtyregions settings in that and it looks like everythings reasonably normal.

RE: cpu core 100% on idle - ericab - 2012-03-22

im lost here; one of the cores is always at 100% still...
top reports xbmc.bin is ~48%

cpu wont throttle down from 2.4 GHz; normally it throttled to 1.60 GHz

RE: cpu core 100% on idle - bilbonvidia - 2012-03-22

I see there has been a few replies which I did not see before taking radical action.

I was running AEON NOX tried chainging back confluence, no change. Was running the xvba pvr version, tried removing and installing the non pvr version again but the same issue so I just re-installed xbmcbuntu and restored my xbmc folder and the problem has gone.

I had installed fancontrol and sensors as well as the latest ati driver.

RE: cpu core 100% on idle - ericab - 2012-03-22

bilbonvidia;
id prefer not to reinstall my xbmc so im going to keep digging;

did you by chance install *any* addons in the last ~~ 2 weeks ?

RE: cpu core 100% on idle - bilbonvidia - 2012-03-22

Yes loads but I have the same addons now as before as restored from my xbmc folder, possibly apart from the pvr adddons. The mythtv addon was one I had tried to install but couldn't.

I need to do some more testing anyway and will watch the cpu like a hawk after every change I make now to see if I find the culprit.

RE: cpu core 100% on idle - DDDamian - 2012-03-22

I'm pretty much out of ideas (was hoping the pvr-spam bug was the cause) and I can't duplicate, not having a Ubuntu platform, but wish you guys luck. Now that one of you has the issue and one doesn't, keep communicating and maybe this can be solved for both ericab and other users.

RE: cpu core 100% on idle - ericab - 2012-03-22

if i were to rename my .xbmc folder and reboot to check for cpu usage; and then rename the xbmc folder back to original setting, there wouldnt be any issue would there be ?

**edit
ive gone through and disabled all my addons; rebooted, still 100% cpu usage.
thanks for all the help last night DDDamian !

RE: cpu core 100% on idle - ericab - 2012-03-22

i can confirm that after renaming my .xbmc folder, and rebooting, xbmc.bin cpu usage is at around 3-4%.
i of course lost all my settings but, at least we can move forward with some new testing.
anyone have ideas ?

**Edit
i moved averything from my original .xbmc folder except for the addon data located in various places, back in the freshly created .xbmc folder
CPU usage still 3-4% at idle.

this is an addon problem.
now to narrow down the list.

@bilbonvidia
will you share with me a list of your addons ?

**edit
ive narrowed the list down to ~20 script/plugins

this is what im down to:

script.module.parsedom
script.common.plugin.cache
script.module.simple.downloader
script.libraryautoupdate
script.module.simplejson
script.module.elementtree

one of those is the culprit

RE: cpu core 100% on idle - ericab - 2012-03-22

found it !
this is the cause:

script.common.plugin.cache

when that is moved from the addons directory; and reboot... cpu usage is completely normal.
if i move it back and reboot; back to 100% cpu.

RE: cpu core 100% on idle - DDDamian - 2012-03-22

Hey! Good new. Think you can post the cleanest possible Debug Log now with script.common.plugin.cache enabled?

RE: cpu core 100% on idle - ericab - 2012-03-22

i had never had it disabled, so im not sure the log will tell us anything new...
http://pastebin.com/2L4FVxfv

i scanned it myself and didnt see anything that sticks out; there is some mention of common.plugin.cache

btw this is loglevel 2, should i try level 3 ?

note: im still not sure why the log is **still** full of "ERROR: GetDirectory - Error getting /storage/", as my NAS is ON, and XBMC sees everything just fine through the GUI, ssh and samba.....
