XBMC enters standby despite having a (scheduled) recording going on - Fry7 - 2012-05-02 18:30
When scheduling a pvr-recording in XBMC (here: dushmaniac's eden-pvr build 75 with MePo-Server v1.2.3) its energysaving-settings do still send the pc to standby, although the recording has just begun...
Any way to solve this in the future to make XBMC overide its global energysaving-settings until a recording is finished?

Hmmz, I see your problem there but I don't have a quick solution for that right now. I can't prevent the energy saving from the addon side, so it should be handled in XBMC itself, but on the other hand, XBMC should still be able to enter standby if the frontend PC is a different machine...
This is not specific for MePo as backend so may I suggest to create a feature request for this on github.com/opdenkamp.

Thank you for looking in!
I tried to create a feature request (here: https://github.com/opdenkamp/xbmc/issues/523), but I seem to be too blind to lable it as a feature request...
So, hopefully, Dushmaniac will recognize it.
Nevertheless, I hope it makes the point.

This is one issue that I have been thinking about how best to solve whilst waiting for an in-built solution.
My setup is as follows:
Fileserver - always on
TV Server + Client as the main machine in the living room running MePo backend and XBMC PVR
Various Clients around the house
Whilst using the TvServer/Client machine in the living room I turn off all power saving features in XBMC. I then use the MePo powerscheduler to manage everything. Either the default version http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/141_Configuration/TV-Server_Configuration/13_Plugins/Power_Scheduler or the advanced one, http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/index.php?title=1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/17_Extensions/3_Plugins/TV-Server_Plugins/PowerScheduler%2B%2B, will work well.
I then set the powerscheduler to prevent shutdown of the TV Server if there is any network activity greater than 15 kb/s. This prevents the TV Server from shutting down when I don't want it to and also covers all the possible situations e.g. when I may be streaming films from the Fileserver, using the TV Server or watching online content. To make this a bit more robust you can add specific Shares to be monitored in the MePo powerscheduler plugin.
The great benefit of using MePo to handle the power saving is that I can leave XBMC running and I have set it to hibernate after 15 mins if there is no network activity. Then, it simply wakes up to record or I can bring it out of hibernation using the remote. Because I didn't close XBMC it is running when the machine wakes and the process is seamless.
The only situation that this doesn't cover is when I am watching a DVD/Blu-Ray. One suggestion that may work is to share the Blu-Ray drive (I'm confident this will work) or if you run something like DVDFab Passkey or AnyDVD then set a Process to be monitored, in the MePo Powerscheduler, which will prevent the standby.
Hopefully this may be a help to some people.
