SSD Optimized - goofygames - 2012-06-24
I used Parted Magic to secure esase my ssd and all seems to have gone fine. But when i reinstall Windows it shows i have 20 GB used out of 32GB. Is this normal till i get everything else done. Do i need to take any updates to fis this?It is a Patriot Torqx 2. Is there any other way to completely wipe it? When i reinstall windows it says there is 29GB free of 29GB.
The windows folder in C/ drive is 11 GB for some reason.

You cant secure erase a SSD. Well you can but its not like a platter drive. Also it shortens the life of the drive.

Parted Magic seems to be my issue as it was fine before this. Is there anything to do to restore it factory condition? (Completely erased)

Are you wondering if Win7 with update is 20GB?
The answer is yes (at least 20GB actually).
I think that 32GB is too small a SSD especially with today's prices. Also 32GB SSDs are slower than 64GB SSDs and also there are no 32GB SSDs that are available in SATAIII whereas there are 60+ GB SSDs that are SATAIII.
Finally I have tried most of those "optimizing your SSD" tips and they make absolutely no difference for HTPC use with today's SSDs and can actually cause unwanted problems. Just install the SSD with AHCI mode enabled in bios like you would a typical drive.

I think the term "Secure" is misleading. As far as partition Magic helping to improve the performance of the drive. I'm not sure. Not to disagree with Eskro he most likely knows something I don't. But when a SSD drive write it writes to blocks that are empty or old and never really is blank. Ive recovered data after wipes that I could not in a platter. You can update the firmware, even after data is on the drive. This will ensure you have the latest instructions for rewrites in the firmware.

Just get this "Corsair Force Series 3 CSSD-F60GB3A-BK 2.5" 60GB SATA III", and you shouldn't have to optimize it.......you'll have plenty of room for XBMC+W7......

My next question is even if i do fill the ssd drive to 28 GB of 29 GB, will it affect performance for speed with xbmc?
I just put a 32 bit version of windows on it and it took up 15 GB of space. Did PartedMagic reformat the drive wrong?
