General linux question - agent154 - 2012-06-26 This isn't a support question, but just a question. Does XBMC on Linux run as its own "window manager" under X, or does it depend on something else like Gnome/KDE/Fluxbox/whatever? I'm thinking about using Linux for my HTPC install and it makes sense to me to use something like Gentoo and use only the least amount of packages I need. RE: General linux question - wsnipex - 2012-06-26 Xbmc can run standalone without a window manager and on top of one. If running on top of a window manager, its recommended to use a non compositing one, e.g. fluxbox RE: General linux question - spontex - 2012-06-26 XBMCbuntu might be a good choice here: it only includes the packages required by XBMC and gives you access to the LXDE windows manager. |
