Is there a way to identify the model? I am looking at one listed on Amazon. The description says 512Mb, so is this M1 or M3?

These just got MCE RC6 support in Linux nightlies Smile

Currently you need to use a USB IR dongle but a re-worked IR driver for the onboard receiver is in the works. Really enjoying this little STB.

1) Easy way? - Yes. The M3's have "M3" in the serial number. (check B4 you open box, or update firmware)

2) Easy way before you buy it from Amazon? ... no. ( I'm sure that their business model will not support the reading of Serial #'s.).

However, I would think that you will get an M3.

Why? Because just like your Amazon link, the Newegg listing also states the "older" specs. The retailer's are just not updating the listing... but you get an M3.

(the M3 specks over the M1 specs do not get you any extra benefits. It was only a supply / manufacturing issue, as the Pivos Peeps explained on their forum. You just need to know, as it will matter which firmware you apply.)

IMPORTANT TIP: when you purchase, plan on picking up a mSD card, as your flashing of firmware, and storage of thumbs will benefit from another 8 or 16 GB of space.

3) thanks for the $99.00 tip / Amazon link ! I may pick up two more !

(yes, consider that a strong endorsement of the Pivos Xios, as a replacement for your secondary systems. I still will continue to rely on a Win7 based machine for my primary system, as these play DTS HD MA, etc).

looks like you have picked the last remaining inventory from Amazon. no more $99 box left! Sad

Take note that the Raspberry Pi can probably give you what you want for ~1/2 the cost.

Geesh, I'm becoming an evangelist...

not if you want passthough Smile

RE: Pivos Xios DS - Mr. Floppy - 2013-01-08

Hi,

I know its the wrong thread but I have a raspberry also. I try to use it with an older beta version and find it very slow. I will give them a chance with the rc3....:-)

But at the end I need two and also the device must looks nicer for the WAF. The XIOS is a good starting point.
@davilla: what do you mean with passthough? Is it better to use android if I want to use that?

RE: Pivos Xios DS - thebearnecessit - 2013-01-08

i think davilla was saying the pi cannot do passthrough.

RE: Pivos Xios DS - Nu7s - 2013-01-08

Are you sure davilla? If I try to adjust the volume while playing on my Raspberry PI, I get a warning it is not possible during passthrough.

Raspberry PI supports DD and DTS passthrough. What is not supported yet is DD-HD and DTS-MA passthrough, but neither on the Pivos Xios DS.

RE: Pivos Xios DS - Mr. Floppy - 2013-01-08

Now its a little bit more clear for me. The ideal device for 1080p passthrough is the Xios with linux but without DD-HD and DTS-MA. If I want to have this also I need a PC.

Thanks

RE: Pivos Xios DS - Ned Scott - 2013-01-08

Pivos doesn't have HD audio passthrough yet.

RE: Pivos Xios DS - Jönke - 2013-01-08

And still don´t output 23,976 hz, right ?
