I see no mouse pointer on my tv - randomwords - 2013-12-29

Hi Everyone. I'm very new to the xbmc community. I bought a raspberry pi preloaded with "frodo" (openelec) on it. I hooked it up to my hdtv. i saw the page where you see videos and underneath it Files and add-ons. I don't see a mouse pointer to click on where i want to go. bought an RF 2.4 ghz remote and hooked the dongle to the pi and still don't see a mouse. bought a wired keyboard and also hooked that up to the pi thinking i could i could use the arrows on the keyboard to navigate or something.... but it's still not working. Like i said, i'm very new to this. i have it on my mac and it's working fine.

any sort of help would be highly appreciated. hope everyone has a great new year!

Also, i looked for a post that may have discussed something like this before but couldn't seem to find one.

Randomwords,

I have the same setup you have and have never used a 'mouse' with it. I use the arrow keys on the remote to navigate XBMC and it works fine. Once you've arrowed to where you wish to be in XBMC simply press the 'ok' or 'enter' button on your remote.

I've found that my TV remote works SUPER for moving about XBMC.

Hope this helps,

Jim

Thanks Jim. It's still not working. I've hooked that thing to my laptop and it works fine there. Right after the openelec logo or whatever is on the screen, there's a small window (5 seconds) where i can type stuff and i can because it shows up just fine. So, the USB connector on the pi is functioning.

tried arrowing repeatedly. still not working. Sad

Is the remote even working at all?

"hooked that thing to my laptop". What thing?

RE: I see no mouse pointer on my tv - randomwords - 2013-12-29

Take a look at the second link i posted in the original post. It's a mouse and keyboard that's the size of a ps3 game controller. It came with a dongle. I hooked that to my laptop and it worked fine. I could write with it and everything. So it is working.

Ah, k. Got it now.

Sounds to me as though you're not set up to use a remote through the USB port. I'm pretty certain there is a setting in system/settings that will enable remote use with such a device.

Keep in mind that I'm a NOOB but you might look at this.

You need to enable "Allow control of XBMC via HTTP" in settings:

I believe you are correct. I guess the next question is how can i do that. The pi automatically goes to xbmc. i'm pretty sure i need to type something during the brief window i mentioned earlier so that i can change it manually in some ms dos way. anyone know how to do that?

i also found this site which is a little more user friendly with the screen shots... the problem is xbmc doesn't wanna budge.

tried booting with a mouse or keyboard plugged in, change the radio button, then reboot and re-plug the dongle in?

Yep, what Dam0 said.

Also, once XBMC loads you can use a remote to cursor right to 'system' then do what I suggested above.

RE: I see no mouse pointer on my tv - jdeatsch - 2013-12-29

It's system/settings/input devices. You'll see what to enable there.

RE: I see no mouse pointer on my tv - randomwords - 2013-12-29

Dam0, i've been booting with the keyboard plugged in. what do u mean by change the radio button?

jdeatsch, once xbmc loads i can't change anything on the screen.

Re: I see no mouse pointer on my tv - nickr - 2013-12-29

No not the wireless keyboard, a real one with wire with a usb plug on the end of the wire. Then the keyboard arrow keys should work.

RE: I see no mouse pointer on my tv - Dam0 - 2013-12-30

when i say "radio button", im referring to the type of button in xbmc settings, that you activate remote controls.

sorry for the confusion...

D.
