HMDI device no longer visible after ubuntu upgrade - opperpanter - 2014-02-19 Hello, I used to have a working setup with XBMCBuntu on a zbod id-83 with a Philips HTR9900 receiver (hdmi HD audio capable). I started with installing xbmcbuntu, which is ubuntu 12.10. Next was upgrading both xbmc and ubuntu to 12.3 and 13.10. I didn't use pulse audio here, just set eveything to pass through to my receiver via hdmi. I did this in october or something. I wanted ubuntu 13.10 to make the hd audio bitstreaming work out of the box (due to the 3.11 kernel). This worked fine until a few weeks ago. For some reason xbmc had switched its audio settings to pulse audio engine again and having analogue audio. When trying to set it back to my hdmi receiver, it doesn't work as my receiver is no longer in the list of devices. So I can only use analogue audio now, all digital/bitstreaming won't work.

I reinstalled everything hoping this would solve it, but it doesnt. When I install xbmcbuntu 12.10 and upgrade xbmc to 12.3 it still works fine. When I upgrade ubuntu to 13.10, it stops working, so there must be something in a recent ubuntu update. I tried googling and searching here but couldn't find any related issues, hence this post. What can I post to help analyse the issue? aplay -L: Code: default I have no asound file or changed anything. I tried the items in the FAQ, including http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XBMCbuntu#XBMCbuntu_no_audio_devices but no success This seems to work: aplay -D plughw:0,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav This works: aplay -D plughw:0,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav RE: HMDI device no longer visible after ubuntu upgrade - un1versal - 2014-02-19 XBMC 12.3 doesn't play well with pulseaudio, but xbmc v13 does. So either remove pulseaudio or install xbmc v13 See PulseAudio (wiki) RE: HMDI device no longer visible after ubuntu upgrade - opperpanter - 2014-02-19 (2014-02-19, 22:46)uNiversal Wrote: XBMC 12.3 doesn't play well with pulseaudio, but xbmc v13 does.yeah normally I don't use pulse at all, but at the moment it's the only way I can get any audio at all. trying gotham could be an idea yes. RE: HMDI device no longer visible after ubuntu upgrade - opperpanter - 2014-02-19 I removed pulse and now everything is back to normal in xbmc 12.3 Audio is no longer working in ubuntu desktop, so that's another challenge. |
