OUYA - HEVC - Only 8FPS - war59312 - 2014-12-20

Hey,

Anyone have any luck getting HEVC (h265) playing back correctly on OUYA?

Tried with Tears Of Steel:

Code:
[h265] TearsOfSteelFull12min_1080p_24fps_27qp_1474kbps_GPSNR_42.29_HM11.mkv

From https://mango.blender.org/

Only getting an average of 8fps and max 10fps.

Running SPMC 13.4.0 on latest OUYA Firmware.

Would be awesome if the full 4K video, tearsofsteel_4k.mov would playback correctly. Sure it's a hardware limitation?

Thanks,

Will

you really think that Ouya could even manage that?
Forget it and get a powerful device

OUYA doesn't have the hardware video decoding for HEVC/H.265. Only more recent boxes/chipsets have that ability. There's a few out there that start around $50-60 USD that do H.265 that seem to have good reviews. Look for ones with Amlogic S812 or S805 chipsets. There's a few other chipsets, but those seem to be safe bets right now.

EDIT: corrected per Irusak

Look for ones with Amlogic S802 or S805 chipsets (for some reason, S802 is better than S805, but the big difference there is just 4K output on the S802). There's a few other chipsets, but those seem to be safe bets right now.

Just for clarification,

s802 = 4K
s805 = HVEC, 1080p
s812 = HVEC, 4K

D'oh, yeah, S812. What lrusak said :)

I figured as much. Thanks for all the info.

Looks like I will wait a bit before I upgrade as I really want S812 + USB 3.0 + HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 (For 4k60) + 10-bit Color Depth + Bluetooth 4.2 + 4:4:4 Chroma Subsampling @ 60Hz and with at least 2GB of RAM.

Too much to ask for it seems. Wink

And what about rk3288?

RE: OUYA - HEVC - Only 8FPS - Ned Scott - 2014-12-20

RK3288 should be working as well with h.265, IIRC.

Mediatek, Realtek, and Samsung also have chips that can handle h.265, but I'm not sure if those are working in Kodi yet.
