Jezz_X Wrote:LOL I don't think anyone ever said it wouldn't run on a ps3 or that it wasn't possible after all they are just running ubuntu anyway. If anything they may have said that it wont run natively (like it did on xbox) or that team xbmc will never bother making it run on a ps3

Quote:Question: Can I run XBMC on PS3, Wii, Xbox360, or a set-top-box based on Sigma Design chip today?
Answer: No, you can't!

Example; just because XBMC runs on Linux and Linux runs on the PS3, by no means implies that XBMC for Linux works on the PS3. It doesn't, deal with it

Jezz_X one of the devs said what i just quoted above, the thing is, they don't have the understanding of the PS3 architecture, or the cell processor and that's perfectly fine, we were just looking for a helping hand, we didn't want it done for us.

Now i wont be commenting anymore, unless its on a build of XBMC for my PC, which i use quite regularly.

Devs im sorry if you feel disrespected, i am in no way trying to disrespect you guys, because you are awesome in the work you do.

I (almost) always read my posts before I hit submit with the mindset of how the reader will interpret it. It helps me get the point across without starting a post storm.

So I've been reading that in a recent Sony update to the PS3, they have removed the option to install another OS. How would that get worked around? I don't think the option of just don't update the firmware is really viable. Also, I think it was mentioned, but this isn't possible on the newer slim ps3 models, correct?

madshaun1984:

Awsome work! Big Grin

Hopefully it will evolve into a fully working version for ps3. I have waiting for a good reason for buying one. Nod

As for technical questions, how would you and anyone else judge the possibility to use this on the ps3 as a fully working version in reasonable time?

Also, I have heard that "install other OS" can be enabled on ps3 slim (geohot?). Anyone else know more of this?

FYI... to those who didn't know this.

Again since we are all being pedantic "Doesn't" does not mean wont ever ever ever. it means at the time they wrote that it doesn't

Also IMHO there is a difference between working and actually being usable

Since you were making words bold to prove your point, don't you think that was a pretty important word in that sentence?

No not really, i stand by my stance, if you arnt capable of doing something, its pretty damn easy to say it cant be done Big Grin

Rolleyes

Edit: Ya know, I wasn't going to bite but... if you were around here back when this was just a project for the xbox and asked about porting it to linux (let alone with gpu acceleration) you would have gotten some of the same answers from the dev team that you got for asking about the ps3. Well, look at where xbmc is now. So ya know what I take from that? Never think something will never happen. But anyway, your little assertion about capability is proven incorrect by history.

Anyway, it is one thing to disagree with the developers but another to throw around who is incapable of what because they didn't have interest in what you wanted.
