RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Bjur - 2015-12-07

I got it working. Installing the new AMD driver but unfortunately also the new GUI Radeon Settings, and where the old CCC had many tweaks you could adjust/turn off in video, the new GUI has almost nothingSad
see here:
https://community.amd.com/thread/191799

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - huhn - 2015-12-07

yeah the new bad drivers.

you can find most of the old settings under "display -> additional settings"

terrible driver no fine tuning with arrow keys just a new interface which is hard to use...

BTW. you should avoid color settings in the CCC and use the settings at your display device. this should result in better quality.

Thanks. I'm using RGB 4:4:4 with a Samsung PS64D8000 model.

AMD A8-7600, integrated filters from aracnoz, madVR with presets in madVR, Windows 10 64 bit. Perhaps it's because I'm using Kodi 15.2-RC2 20 september, however it works perfectly a week ago.

Edit: Nevermind, it was a driver problem.

No chroma in downscaling. First the chroma is upscaled to 4K, then image downscaling is applied to the image.

I would use Lanczos3 + AR for both chroma upscaling and image downscaling.

Getting major latency issues (141ms) when using that for 2160p -> 1080p content. And do I want scale in linear light? Anything I'm doing wrong?

HD4000 isn't that powerful, only has 1GB. Using LAV Filters / decoders.

It is a 16GB MKV with overall bitrate of 41.4Mbps (AVC, 5.1 AC3 640Kbps) streamed from a more than capable i5 Plex Server via the PleXBMC addon.

1080p content is playing fine with Lancoz 3 taps + AR.

Ok, then Bicubic75 + AR and Catmull-Rom + AR for image downscaling. Otherwise, you might have to use DXVA image upscaling and downscaling for that profile. Check scale in linear light. Based on the rendering queue, it sounds like you will have to use DXVA scaling.

I still get around 70 - 100ms with Bicubic 75 + AR and Catmull-Rom + AR. Is it just a case of having a really weak GPU?

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Bjur - 2015-12-07

Is it possible to export madVR Settings/profiles? I would like to roll back and would like to keep my newest settings in madVR.

Yes, and image downscaling appears to be far more GPU intensive than I thought. I'm guessing the source frame rate is higher than 24 fps? That would partly explain it.

Nope. 23.976.

What I don't understand is when I use these settings below from the configure page, I get 20 - 30ms of lag using D3D9 or D3D11. Surely it should be better than that considering I have a HD4000, not a 3000!

"I have a laptop with an Intel HD 3000 graphics processor and Sandy Bridge i7. I can run madVR with the following settings:
Chroma: Bicubic100 + AR
Image: Lanczos3 + AR
Image doubling: Off
Upscaling refinement: Off
Artifact removal - Debanding: Off
Image enhancements: Off
Dithering: Ordered"

Something sounds wrong. That is 23.976 SD -> 1080p. Try turning off Fullscreen exclusive mode and hardware acceleration.

Ah ok. What is a reasonable value you would be comfortable? 10ms / 20ms?

I guess I can't expect the same downscaling 4K to 1080p.

Exclusive mode from the DSPlayer settings and changing Kodi's render method to software you mean? It was on Auto, should I change to DXVA?

EDIT: DXVA gets it down to 1ms using D3D9.

According to the guide, Intel's DXVA scaling is similar to Lancoz 3 + AR anyway?

I'm watching a streaming game and those settings are 32.86 ms with HD3000 SD -> 1080p at 29.97 fps. DXVA is a lower quality, which is why the queue is so low. It is best with Intel iGPU. I'm not sure if you get dithering and and the output and processing is done at 8-bits rather than 16-bit. But the outcome would be identical to Kodi DVDPlayer.

Edit: I see now. At 720p, the queue goes way up. The number of pixels matters. I didn't know that. I'll add that info to the set-up guide tomorrow. Obviously, I don't have a 4K display.
