There's also Emby Theater?

That looks overly complicated. Jriver is essentially what this is, You have Madvr inside with gui with the ability to add other filters. Even has 3d subtitles. I really don't understand why Kodi can't have two versions or even be selectable based on whether you want to use this or not. As long as these things are part of the main branch, there will be issues with development.

I get no one wants to work on it. Thats why I said its really not a feasible long term solution if it can't be in the main branch.

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - SinnerNL - 2016-10-14

Hi there,

New to the forum and since recently entered the 4K HDR world. First thing I noticed was that is rather difficult for a n00b to setup a proper environment on a PC for playing UHD content. Now after a lot of searching I ended up trying to integrate MadVR in to a player. This is all new to me so I wanted the option with the greatest ease so I tried Kodi DSplayer.

Installation went ok, got it and MadVR installed, but if I try to play (any) content, it does nothing. Selecting the DVDplayer as player works, but I need the capabilities of MadVR. I tried different settings of the MadVr render engine, but cannot get it to play anything (not regular HD or HEVC 10bit content).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

ps. my specs: Core i7-3770 + GTX1080

You've configured each filter?

The file is a SMB Windows share?

Use system filters (Directshow merits) is unchecked?

Oh... it was the wrong kind of share, used samba and it works!!!
Thanks so much, this was giving me headaches! Kudos Nod

I have another question, which video decoder should I use for best HDR playback?
If I select CUVID the playback on a demo HDR video (sony camping demo) is extremely choppy
If I select DXVA (copy - back) it's starts a bit choppy but evens it out eventually
If I select DXVA Native it plays ok, but the colors look inverted or something and overblown (see image below)

And in none of the selected decoders I get the HDR popup my LG tv gives when HDR content is played.

DXVA copy-back is the way to go for bug free playback.

HDR passthrough isn't working at this point because there is no way for the GPU to pass this metadata to the display. Currently, only HDR to SDR is working correctly.

Hmmm, ok thanks for the info, is there ANY way to play HDR content on my PC?

Use madVR's HDR to SDR conversion.

If you manually enable HDR mode on your display, passthrough may work, but I've never tried it myself.

This all seems pointless if you want to watch HDR demos. I would think that would get old pretty quick.

MPC-HC can be used with Kodi. You don't have to give up Kodi as a media front-end.

I used that combo for years and I can tell you it ain't perfect. Jriver plays the stuff correctly. No issues and subs work right but I like the kodi front end better so now to see if I can use jriver as external player.

The only issue is time stamps. It plays everything perfectly for me. NO issues with subs if correctly configured. At least on my end.

I assume we are talking about Madvr with mpc as external player. Jriver walks on this frankly if you want to do 3d. Unfortunately, I have my own unique issues and Jriver doesn't seem to be able to cope with that so it looks like Kodi plus mpc and madvr will have to do the job. MPC has issues with 3d subs. They don't work correctly. I'm using MPC-BE now that at least will get a little depth from the subs, but still doesn't work that well, Jriver works much better for the subs. For most people MPC-HC with Kodi is probably a great solution as you can use remote extender program with kodi remote and have a nice remote setup or use yatze. MPC-BE won't work with this setup. Very strange as they are almost indentical programs. At any rate, Jriver at least for me won't stretch my movies vertically and MPC will so it stays for now as I absolutely can't stand watching half my screen in 3d and I've tried it multiple times.

you wont be able to play HDR on your PC as nothing is sending any meta data to your TV, videos will just play as normal video. DSPLAYER cant play 4k HEVC stuff either, so if you are playing 4k HEVC demos this is why its choppy.

if you want smooth playback you'll have to use KODI krypton but you'll lose LAV FILTERS so you have to play 3D frame packed stuff on an external player. I am currently experimenting with how best to deal with my own media needs. I have a fully 4K setup with a 65 inch 4K OLED TV, i'm having all manner of problems with KODI, DPI and graphics drivers. My advice - sack 4k and HDR off for a couple of years until all the issues have been resolved, by that time there should be loads of content to see.

I'm currently using kodi krypton with MPC+MVR+LAVfilters for 3D playback, however i'm toying with the idea of just playing 4k stuff in krypton and having all my 1080p stuff running on MPC-HC as an external player. So many options here, none of them ideal, this is why we really really really really really need a DEV to build DSPLAYER on Kodi Krypton, then we'll be back to being able to play everything on one player and not have to use exteral players.

DSPlayer should be able to play 4K HEVC. LAV Video can do the decoding.

Question (maybe a dumb one, as I think I've seen this referenced before, but I'm looking for a definitive answer): if I use a third party player, there's really no way to still use Kodi's player overlay\OSD during playback, correct? And so short of a new DSPlayer or alternate Kodi build, if I want to use MadVR and still have full integration, I'm stuck on Jarvis?
