(2018-03-16, 17:02)mkohman Wrote: Guys  please forgive me as though I do not want to go off topic again nor do I want to spark any dispute between forum members with regards to AMD or NVIDIA....

As you may know I recently purchased a Sapphire RX560 4GB DDR5 GPU and whilst the card is working absolutely fine, today I found out that the card had no warranty as I contacted Sapphire directly with the S/N from the card. The seller on eBay advised me this was because he had't registered the card as yet and assured me that he would do this and provied me  3 yrs warranty.. I wasn't really happy with this as Sapphire themselves advised me that the warranty had expired on 21/01/2018..

In the end I arranged to return the card back to the seller for a full refund of £165.00 . I was going to buy a Gigabyte RX560 4GB card  when I spoke to the sales rep from Scan.co.uk who reccomended the EVGA 1050ti 4GB SSC ACX3.0. Whilst I agree the specs seem much better on this card , there are 2 x questions I wanted to ask before ordering this card and hope you guys could help me:

1 - Does this card support HDCP 2.2

2 - I read that Nvidia cards need special software in order to play 3D movies or files.. In Kodi would I be able to play 3D iso or 3D movies as I have been with the AMD cards? Does the Nvidia card support 3D311?

Thank you and sorry if these questions are obvious but I have no experience with the NVIDIA platform.
HI,

1 - yes
2  - The 3D issues with NVIDIA card range from working totally fine to not working at all.  Most people seem to be able to get it working somehow using batch files to start and stop 3D or other ways, I personally had loads of trouble with my 1050 and gave up. There is also another issue which hasnt yet been solved, you will llikely get a frame drop every 4-8 minutes unless someone has found a fix for this now, but just with 3D movies.

The advantage of the NVIDIA card is the extra processing, there are no other advantages, the will both do they same job otherwise, the question you need to ask yourself is, do I need any more power?

I think that pretty much sums it up for me.. Thanks dude.. Will stick with the Sapphire and see if he can activate my 3 yrs warranty... I want hassle free playback and the current rx 560 does that only issue was the warranty but as he says he will activate it and get me 3 yrs warranty l will stick with it.. Thanks [emoji106]

I know there are users of DSPlayer who must be using this combination and DSPlayer uses XySubFilter.
I use 10-bit output with xySubFilter and I don't have any problem. It's 10-bit output at 1080p to a Pioneer Plasma that accepts it (it says 36-bit in GUI, then it surely dithers).

what for? Kodi 18 is alpha1 only. I don't see a reason to waste time to trying adapt DS code base for v18 now

I've just registered there and have to wait 5 days before I will be allowed to leave a comment :\
I've investigated the issue further, checked the frame stats with and without subtitles - I see no difference in numbers at all, but there's huge difference in playback smoothness. And there are actually no dropped frames, the playback just looks as if there are lots of them.
first thing to do is rule some stuff out, do you have the same issues when playing the movies in MPC-HC or MPC-BE, if so it might be LAV filter issue, hard so say but this has been disccused quite a bit on the fourms but sorry, I cant remember if it was MADVR, LAV or DS forum. Do some searching.
Users on the madVR forum have supposed that the issue could be due to XYSubFilter and suggested disabling it. It's too radical solution. Is it possible to replace XYSubFilter in DSPlayer to another subtitles renderer?

Exactly. I stated a couple of days ago that it's very unlikely aracnoz will waste his time chasing alpha and beta status releases. If we're luck and he still works on this, we'll get a build for the final release.
I'm not his ambassador or anything but this is what history suggests.

agreed, with current version working very well I dont see a need for it anyway.

Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - mkohman - 2018-03-17

Guys quick help on something.. Is there any issues with amd or nvidia switching between hdr and sdr? I read that windows 10 apparently had some issues but not sure if they resolved that...

Also I bought the evga 1050ti scc anyway because I wanted to try both amd and nvidia and see which was better for my own.. I will be sending one of the back.. Only I wanted to know what needs to installed or what setting I need to apply to get the nvidia card to switch into 3D and back out when needed.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thank you..

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - mclingo - 2018-03-17

no issues with AMD and HDR switching as long as you've got it setup correct, I'm currently running on my NVIDIA 1050 while i'm waiting for my RX460, that switches fine as well and custom resolution is working in MADVR so i'm getting smooth 23,976 playback. As I expected however 3D is a mess, config works fine but when you play a movie its in 2D and very choppy, i just cant even be bothered trying get this to work as i've already wasted many hours of my life with this which I cant get back, not going through that again.

This card is great for 2D stuff though so it will be fine until my RX 460 arrives.

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - mkohman - 2018-03-17

Thanks for your help.. 2 questions please:

1 - Do I need to enable HDR and advanced colour in Windows 10 Display settings?

2 - What is the actual process to enable 3D with NVIDIA? I would like to give it a try.. If it works I will keep the EVGA 1050ti SCC 4GB as this card is faster than the RX560 4GB and apparently performs better too.. Despite not watching hardly any 3D I would still want a card that does everything for me .. I would really appreciate it if you could maybe pm me the details or an guide on how to enable the 3D playback on the nvidia card..

Out of interest which model 1050ti do you have , I mean which brand and model number? Your issue may be a compatability issue with other components within your HTPC or projecoter/tv? Thank you ...

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Bibio - 2018-03-17

dont know if its i'm not understanding things regarding 'devices -> display mode ->list all display modes madVR may switch to' and 'scaling algorithms -> (profiles) image upscaling'  i noticed if i put 'list all display modes' in madvr as 2160pxx, 1080pxx, 720pxx. 720 will upscale to 1080 but 1080 would just stay at 1080 and both 720 and 1080 wont upscale to 2160. i removed the 1080 and 720 now they both upscale to 2160 still using the (profiles). is this correct?

btw with a 1050ti trying to upscale 720 to 2160 i cant use NGU sharp high it stutters like mad, i have to drop it down to low.

i also noticed that watching 4k hdr that the chroma is set at NGU sharp. is this madvr deciding this and if so how can i drop it down or to something else, i was thinking creating a profile '4K' in scaling?

also while using kodi-dsplayerx86-madvr with xonfluence skin (i hate the default one) last night (working pretty well) without touching anything it broke. it would not let me exit kodi and would just hang, even after several reboots it was the same so guess what i had to do. :-( luckily i have the settings saved as screen shots :-)

dont engage hdr in windows as it will set your desktop as hdr always on, the card should auto switch hdr in and out depending on content. you have to enable it in madvr, or as i have noticed just leave it on 'let madvr decide' as it seems to be much more stable, for me anyway.

cant say about the other questions.

Yeah, I bet no one is interested in running all those sweet ass addons that need Kodi 18's version of inputstream.adaptive. Let's all just keep filling this thread with page after page of Nvidia vs AMD and settings talk that totally not belong somewhere else.

It's not like the non existing people wishing/waiting for DSPlayer 18 get their hopes up when seeing a bunch of new replies every single day.
