RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Warner306 - 2018-03-29 (2018-03-28, 23:18)Bibio Wrote: not really. just copy what i have put up in screenshots for each profile in each group, after that is just a case of fine tuning the settings within the profiles. Why are you trying to undo all of the advice I just provided? He already has everything configured correctly. Now you are making him start all over again. You don't trust my advice or didn't read the thread? Telling him not to upscale 1080p -> 2160p with madVR is bad advice. Does your display have the computing power of your GPU? madVR uses complex image upscaling (I'm talking NGU image doubling) to scale the image using neural networks that find the edges of objects and sharpen them without ringing or aliasing. The number of calculations required for this type of upscaling requires a gaming GPU with computational power. No Blu-ray player or TV will have the capability to do that type of image scaling. Its processing is simply too slow. So why are you using madVR in the first place if not to image scale? Just for HDR passthrough? Can you see the difference in these images? If you can't, you shouldn't be using madVR: Image Comparison – American Dad: Original Jinc3 + AR super-xbr100 NNEDI3 256 neurons + SuperRes (4) NGU Sharp (very high) RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - mkohman - 2018-03-29 Thanks for the advice.. Much appreciated.. I am actually using Windows 10 latest version (I think it's creator's edition).. My projector does upscale 1080p to 4K yes and it looked like 4K so dry pleased but do I only put the refresh rates into madvr if I want madvr to do this or do I always put the refresh rates into madvr? Thank you.. Are these rated ok: 2160p60, 2160p59, 2160p50, 2160p24, 2160p23, 1080p60, 1080p59, 1080p50, 1080p24, 1080p23 Are these all the refresh rates I should add or should I not add any? What's the benefit of adding these? Thank you for your help [emoji106] RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - mkohman - 2018-03-29 Thank you @Warner360 I do trust and appreciate all your help . Just getting a bit confusing now as I seem to be repeating myself due to other advices given.. I appreciate everyone's help here..thank you RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Warner306 - 2018-03-29 (2018-03-29, 01:15)mkohman Wrote: Thanks for the advice.. Much appreciated.. I am actually using Windows 10 latest version (I think it's creator's edition)..you only need to add the refresh rates of the media you will be playing. now since this is only 2160p23 (4k) and 1080p23 (bluray) thats technically all you need unless you want to play 'demo' stuff that is 2160p60, 30 etc.etc. then you would add those as well. there is no "24hz" material as its classed as 23hz (23.976) for which the industry actually class as 24hz but everybody else classes as 23hz. as far as i'm aware there are no 50hz or 60hz bluray/4k discs out there. dvd is classed as either 50hz or 60hz depending on your country. if you want to upscale 1080p material to 2160p then dont add 1080p23 into the list and let madvr do the upscaling. if you are only ever going to play rips of the original bluray/4k discs 1-1 in .mkv format all you need to add is 2160p23 if you want madvr to do the upscaling. or 2160p23, 1080p23 if you want your projector to do the final upscaling. RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - brazen1 - 2018-03-29 Glad we have an understanding. RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Warner306 - 2018-03-29 I should leave my phone alone and stop checking this thread. I appreciate the help Brazen, but I am not the chief. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. This was a just a misunderstanding due to the poster not reading the thread carefully. We worked it out in PM. I just got upset because it took a long time to get the user to the finish line and I thought he was going to get screwed up by any new advice. Please don’t stop posting in this thread. I enjoy hearing from other DSPlayer users. And I don’t know how much longer I can be on this forum daily. I’ll have to go offline eventually. There are many experienced users here, so please post. RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - mkohman - 2018-03-29 Hi @Warner360.. Thank you so much for your help.. I did read your whole guide.. There is a huge amount of amazing knowledge to gain from your generous guide and I'm still trying to take it in.. I will re read the guide and follow what you originally suggested.. I do apologise if I have caused anyone to be upset.. I am just trying to learn.. Thank you for all that has tried to help me.. I will stick with you recommendation.. That was my intention from the get go however just wanted to confirm a few things.. I won't be asking any more questions.. Thank you all.... RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Bibio - 2018-03-29 i love it when people start bashing the nubies without even knowing what they are capable of. but hey bash on if it makes you happy. maybe if people had actually looked at what i posted with screenshots for mkohman you might realise what i was trying to do for him. a nubie i may be but lets face it, its not rocket science now is it. mkohman has taken screenshots like a clever person does so no harm in trying something new and applying the settings so i really dont know what all the big fuss is about. mkohman, dont stop posting if you need help. after all thats what forums are usually for, to help other gain knowledge that otherwise would not get elsewhere. the only real experts are the people who write the code of applications. without first hand knowledge the rest of us are lesser mortals. :-) RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - mkohman - 2018-03-29 Thank you I appreciate your help RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - mkohman - 2018-03-29 @Warner360 I have just seen this reply now sorry.. I will not put any refresh rates and follow your advice completely.. Thanks again and apologies for any inconvenience I may have caused.. I have been working during this week and will have time to setup properly tomorrow evening.. I will report back if that's ok? RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Warner306 - 2018-03-29 Just to let you know, for future reference, almost all (but not all) of the advice I give comes from madshi himself. I have read everything he has posted on Doom9 for the last five years. I even follow his threads at AVSForums. There is good discussion going on right now about HDR -> SDR conversion in the projector forum. Well, enough arguing. Can we get back to DSPlayer? I forgive your interference and could care less. RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - ashlar - 2018-03-29 I think one point bears repeating, without the slightest shade of doubt. The main reason to use Kodi DSPlayer is to have access to madVR video processing and scaling algorithms. Whatever your source resolution is, always output to your panel/TV native resolution and use madVR to scale to that resolution. As Warner306 pointed out, you are going to use scaling algorithms far more advanced than the ones used in whatever display/projector you'll be using. GPU computational capabilities on a PC level card are simply far higher than what's available for consumer electronics SoC (System on Chips). You'll tipically use an AMD card or a Nvidia Card. Both have computational power measured in teraflops. Forget about getting that power on SoC. So if you want to use Kodi DSPlayer and not waste your time and your GPU, use madVR to scale content to your TV/panel/projector native resolution. End of story, really. RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - mclingo - 2018-03-29 Hi, i've setup MADVR to trigger two different profiles based on HDR vs NON HDR content. If (HDR) "HDR" If (not HDR) "SDR" These simply turn off "use DIRECT3D11" for none HDR stuff. It works fine with MPC-HC but doesnt work with KODI DS, the movie plays in SDR and doesnt trigger HDR mode on my TV, any ideas why it doesnt work with DS? |
