I couldn't find a press release or news story on the Official Kodi homepage. Are you sure this is true?

I can see it there. I guess we have to wait and see what happens. I wouldn't expect anything in the next week or so. There are also some outstanding Windows issues that are supposed to be addressed after the first official release.

TBH I am surprised it has been released, as there are still a lot of issues with it. I had a play in portable mode and external players was not playing well, plus the other issues you see in the forum.

Also surprised there has been no fanfare as you say.

I thought there was no one about to do a new version of Dsplayer anymore hence why no updates or fixes to 17.6.

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - mclingo - 2019-01-29

I was hoping to see a much improved player in 18 but still no 3D MVC for windows or HDR passthrough I could see, I played a HDR movie but it looked all kinds of terrible and didnt turn on the HDR mode so I'm guessing its trying to convert to SDR and doing it really really badly. it has dithering which is good I guess but nowt else apart from a load of gaming and streaming support which is borderline illegal anyway, you would thought that after trying to distance themselves from illegal pluggins they have done a bit more work on the player itself - you know, so it looks like a movie player and not an outlet for illegal activity Smile

Netflix and Amazon are now available as add-ons for the internal player. That is some progress towards providing more legal content.

aracnoz doesn't speak to anyone here, so no one would know if he is still following this thread or Kodi development.

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - mclingo - 2019-01-29

yeah but they seem to be neglecting the video player itself, its just to basic to even consider using for a HTPC unless you are using an external player.

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Warner306 - 2019-01-29

The target platforms don't have much processing power compared to a PC, so I guess that is to be expected. mpv has all kinds of open-source code available for various video shaders that could be ported to Kodi Windows. I think Windows Kodi would divert too much from the video players of other platforms, so that probably will never happen. Shame because even Intel iGPUs could handle many of these shaders.

yeah its understandable but thoroughly disappointing, thankful we still have a fully working version of DS.

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - nicr4wks - 2019-01-30

Is anyone using play/pause/stop events in Kodi dsplayer to trigger events? In my case via home assistant connecting to Kodi web sockets.

I've noticed that when using the dsplayer version only sometimes will it report the playback status, example if you pause a movie then play it it will report these events, try a second time and no pause/play event is passed on, try a 3rd time and it might work, it seems very random as to when it will or will not work.

I've noticed pressing stop or letting a video play until the end is always published fine.

For a test I installed the stock version of Kodi and all events are updated as expected. I thought since an external player is being used it might not work at all, but not sure why the randomness of it?

I set it up so long ago, that I forget exactly what the heck I did.. I probably have the tutorial saved somewhere..  But I use the Kodi Callbacks addon to adjust my lighting based on play/pause/resume/stop and it works pretty flawlessly in dsplayer..  I've been meaning to see if there's a newer, better way of doing it these days, since this is something I set up a few years ago..

I wanted to try out Kodi V18, so I set it up with external player and madvr, but lost the lighting function that I'm used to, so I ended up going back to Dsplayer..  Add me to the list of those praying that it gets updated... Big Grin

I would doubt this was ever tested, so the status could be sent by accident or without any knowledge of the developer. They could be relics of the original internal player.
