Authorities and legality question - wet-sock - 2015-04-11

I recently bought an android box (minix neo) that came with kodi (acutally xmbc gotham) pre-installed along with other apps.
When I watch a foriegn tv channel or whatever on it - can I easily be held responsible by the authorities. How Do I know if the content I am watching is illegal or not. Sometimes it might be obivious but not allways.
Also if I add extra plugins to xbmc that came with the device, again how do I know which ones will show me content that may be illegal. It's all very complicated but in some countries they are really cracking down - for instance in Germany they are sending out hefty fines to people.
Any advice on how to be careful?

If it's something in the official report then it'll be ok, from any other source then it's user beware. Just use common sense, if an add-on claims to offer content for free that would normally have to paid for from the content maker or services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Google Play, iTunes or whatever, then it's certain the add-on is accessing illegal content.
