invisible .kodi file in ~user home folder? - jaxparo - 2015-04-20

Kodi 14.2 downloaded from official Kodi website. Upon launch, in Home folder I get an invisible .kodi folder that has a temp folder inside with two .rar files that are some type of Windows autoloading BIOS flasher for an HP laptop, and the other is a manifest of uploaded files that include tons of movies & XXX. When the .rar are expanded, there are nearly 4,000 files, small in size, logs or text mostly. WTF?

The ~/.kodi/temp/ folder itself is nothing scary, and that's just where kodi puts temporary files for when it processes something or downloads a temp subtitle file, etc. What's likely happening is that you have some trojan porn and malware sitting in a rar file or two, probably in your downloads folder, and that download folder was added as a source in Kodi. It's not uncommon for such files to be labeled as movies or TV shows on download sites, so you probably thought you were downloading a video file that had nothing to do with the actual content of those files.

I would delete the files from the temp folder and then look in any folders that Kodi was pointed to, such as a download folder. The source of those files is likely in there. Always be careful of what you download.
