Can't Exit Kodi - nyktovus - 2015-08-18
Running ubuntu 14.04 , kodi installed and working perfectly. was able to choose "kodi" as my desktop environment at the login screen. (tho for some reason there are 2 kodi's
)once in kodi it works like a champ.
but today I booted the machine, it autologged into kodi, as it has for weeks now being it was the last environment i was in..but i wanted to exit kodi to the login prompt and jump into my LXDE environment to make some tweaks.
however, exiting kodi only turned the screen black, gave me the black X for a few seconds and then returned me to Kodi. Over and over again..
i can power off, and ctrl+Alt+f1 gets me a command prompt.. any ideas how i can get back into LXDE or the Login screen?

Keep in mind I am not a Kodi Developer and just a peer giving advice: I experienced the same issue with Kodi 15. What worked for me was at the command prompt typing "sudo killall -KILL kodi-bin". If I recall correctly it took a few tries before this worked but soon I was back to the login screen where I could choose other Desktop Environments. Hope this helps!

Better quit kodi, make it hang - ssh in and provide the kodi Debug Log. That way we will see if it hangs doing something. There is a better fix for sure.

If not already disabled, please disable the "Version Check" Addon under the services. Then exit kodi (will once again hang), then start it again and see what now happens on next quit.
From the log it seems to be an addon that does not want to go home :-)

It was the solution in > 95% of the exit issues, which a simple forum search will reveal. I will stop blaming it, when it is fixed.

well.. after i disabled version check it let me exit,, given it took 3 tries, but it let me out..
i put the latest 3 crashlogs and a new kodi.log here

Okay - so it works now? Or does it create a crashlog everytime now?
If it does, please do sudo apt-get install gdb so that we get a reasonable backtrace.

So maybe this helps: i notced the crash and return doesnt seem to happen if i run it as an application from within the lxde WM. but only when i run KODI as the environment.. but as i think about it, it could be crashing, yet i cant tell, because at that point i'm back in lxde..

ok, heres the latest crash reports.
If i run it as an application is seems to be ok.. ish..
but logging into kodi as a desktop environment seems to be when i get stuck inside kodi. exit only cause it to log back into itself.
shutdown works tho. but i'd like to be able to exit and get into the lxde wm.
