Like the new dll.

Some older files that I had that wouldn't play on the old on played perfectly on the new mplayer.

Question though, I got the code from the svn sever. And compiled it (would of had it faster if the gcc and the compiler weren't being so annoying Wink).

Now, compiling code is not my specialty. But after using the ./configurexbmc, make, and makedll commands it gave me mplayer.exe and mplayer.dll.

I presume that I only copy mplayer.dll to the folder in XBMC? And what about getting the codecs.conf? I just used the old one from the 070214 build. Wasn't sure how to compile that.

Other then that though, I'm pretty dam happy with the mplayer.dll. Keep it up.

the new codec.conf is in etc ( without it it won't use the new available codecs ). you could just have grabed the zip from first page, there really hasn't been any major changes since last one there, but hey compiling yourself is always fune Smile

Oh and on the coreavc thingy, i've not heard anything from betaboy, i'd assume he doesn't want to tell me anything official should they want to not allow us. Abit annoying.

Thanks, found it.
And thats why I compiled it :p, always fun to do it yourself and I never really trusted people other then myself to do things.

Now if only I could compile more complicated things.

Elupus:

about coreavc: just do it your way. if he hasn't told you anything is because he isn't worried about it.

- gronne - 2007-03-13

Microsoft won't sue anybody for using the illegal XDK, so I'd seriously doubt he'd be able to do anything. And having people pay for codecs is not what the scene has really ever been used to, so why should we get used to a system we don't want? The only thing really needed from core, is the speed, as I know it. X264 is quality-wise at least as good.

Anyways, what could Core really lose in financial matters by having their decoder implemented in xbmc? Possibly someone wanting to buy their encoder, right?

For what i understand it has nothing to do with them. It's not like you're using their code or distributing their codec or something, it's just adding support for their codec, like the pc version of mplayer. If people want to use their codec they still have to get it, and how to do that is their responsibility. So i'd say that with support for coreavc on xbmc it would create a new target public for them, more people to buy coreavc.

I personally would buy coreavc if i could use it on xbmc, because that's where i watch my videos, not on my pc.

- ultrabrutal - 2007-03-13

well it depends on how much speed is gained. if 720p would become possible (doubt it) it would be worth it. if not I'll stick with xvid which is great too

If anyone wants the latest build here it is:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D5XHAQDX

Built today, March 13, 2007.
Not that really anything has changed though, but for the people who want the latest one.

Built using gcc3.4.2 (for some reason, only 3.4.2 and 3.4.4 are able to compile mplayer), and with Rev8146 of the src.

- elupus - 2007-03-14

coreavc, it's hardly worth it. and on the legal matter, difference being ms can affort to loose some revenue while a small software company can't and i'm in no mood to draw bad publicity to xbmc. this is the last we discuss about that here thou.

- [o]SoundWave[o] - 2007-03-14

getting back on topic, is there plans on adding advanced SSA/ASS subtitle support in xbmc's mplayer?
I would really like that, because when i watch some anime that uses ssa on xbmc the text gets all messed( doesn't do the positioning, etc...).
I would try to do it myself, but i only know some java (still learning) and no c/c++...

- elupus - 2007-03-14

it's abit to large endeavor. it has tangles in way to many places to do a partial update. if i(or somebody else) ever do a complete update then it will come along.

- wizboy11 - 2007-03-14

Question, how come my xbox has such a hard time decoding X264 encoded files?

It can handle H264 just fine though, which is what I don't get. Aren't they almost the same thing?

- elupus - 2007-03-15

they are exactly the same. it all depends on what settings where used when enceded the file. there are many options you can choose from.

- annamaniac - 2007-03-15

Hi

I'm a little confused as nobody else seems to have brought this up, but the 2007-02-14 build and the one wizboy11 posted earlier seem to have broken mpeg playback here. It works fine on the 2007-01-17 build. Using XBMC 2.0.1 stable.

Well, just asking because I was wondering if xbmc should be able to play a X264 encoded file back fine. Resolution was 640x480. Or does it all depend on the settings?

The new mplayer plays it back better then the old one did but it's still rather choppy. And this is the only thing holding me back from using X264 for my encodes.
