Downloaded Kodi 16.0 today for Mac OSX 10.7.5 and had the same problem. Quick Google search brought this up. Downloaded 16.1 RC2 and it works fine.
Chip - just go to the Kodi download page and scroll down. You'll see the RC for MAC listed there.
