I think we have a lot of tests, opinions and some speculations Wink
At the end it helps with hardware decisions.

Picture looks good, the same as with hardware option, not different that I can see.
No stutters, smooth image.
But isn't that half the resolution of "Hardware Based"? So there is a "big" (?) difference and you just can't see it?

The display shows [3D]. It has to detect something. It's not just 540 lines per eye. Maybe it is some hardware handshaking and 1080 lines per eye interlaced or frame packing.
So it didnt actually detect 3D on its own. That means it probably was just 540 lines per eye. Which is technically a big difference that he didn't see. My point: it's all very subjective (although I agree that MVC to 4k interlaced does sound great)

RE: Intel HTPC/NUC's w/reliable Kodi-native 3D MVC Playback - 3DBuff - 2017-03-17

It's true looking at the screen and trying to decide if the previous set up was better specially after it takes a while to change the setup could be very subjective. You tend to like brand new shiny toy better then the old dusty one, no matter what Wink Unless you see something really striking wrong with the image it's hard to tell if image from 20 min. before was better. True test would be 2 identical screens side by side playing the same content but we don't have this luxury.

However if people in this forum agree that 4K interlaced over HDMI 2.0 is better compared to 1.4 port with hardware 3D then most likely it is. This may even be the fact that new video card and HDMI 2.0 has faster electronics that can produce better sharper image. When the image is full size 3D 4k on the TV screen then scaling and interlacing had to be done one way or another by computer or TV. We are trying to decide if sending unprocessed Frame Packing (2 x 1080p frames) at 24 fps and let TV make it into interlaced 3D 4K display is better then processing it into interlaced ready frame 3840x2160 at the source and send to TV as is at 24 fps is better.

I'm really curious about this. Did you get a chance to test it? From your previous post: HDMI 2.0 3D interlaced really good picture but the same on 1.4 port stuttered frame and heavy CPU load. Can you just double check on second system.

Anyone know what the fixes are? Or just based on 17.1 rc?

Excuse for the interrupt, but nothing has changed sins my previous respond, will pick it up when time is available for this.

I see a lot of new users using the 3D MVC build, I am wondering how many users are still in this 3D adventure?
