Neil Wrote:No, he's saying that the onboard 7050 did NOT work ("cutting it" is Americar slang for working).

Thanks

rodalpho Wrote:My TV is 1080p as well, and XBMC works fine with the onboard video.

I guess the 7150 is a bit faster than the 7050, and I have my board overclocked. Since it's onboard, the video is thus also overclocked, from the native 200Mhz (on a E4500) to 266Mhz.

Good news, with integrated graphics I don't have to worry about looking for low profile, passive one. It also got integrated HDMI so no sound+DVI->HDMI converters needed.

- embrion - 2007-12-23

No, it won't. At least XBMC menu won't work smooth as it needs >= Shaders 3.0 and openGL 2.0 http://xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/index.php?title=Linux_port_project#Hardware_requirements
and GMA950 is only Shader 2.0 and OpenGL 1.4 http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/gma950/index.htm

I'm looking for a Intel Mainboard (silent) with HDMI and a videocard that let me playback HD content now and in the future! It's not easy to get something.

Does there exist a list of hardware working fine with XBMCL HD Content?

I consider a P5E-VM HDMI mainboard but i'm still reluctant to get it. Providing such a HCL would help us all. Users would have the option to select and get hardware that works, the devs would have big pool of users with "working" hardware to test!? Rofl

It would be nice if someone created some sort of webpage maybe a wiki to track what hardware worked and too what degree. I'm not an html expert but I'll see what I can come up with.

Did we ever come up with some "Standard" clips to use for comparison?

- embrion - 2007-12-23

I see that topic "is this powerful enough?" has been moved here without topic's autor question and now it looks like I'm happy that 7150 will work and than I say it won't work (GMA950 won't work as this is what redirected topic's author asked about).
Could one of the moderators fix it ?

The thing is it looks like my friend forgot about my samples request. I'll remind him.

Okay, that last string was confusing! Looks like the 7150 MIGHT work, some contention there. The 7050 apparently has some issues - at the menu if nothing else. The Intel chipset on the Shuttle is apparently not supporting Shader 3. Wikipedia has a pretty good breakdown of the various Intel chipsets with the video capabilities if anyone cares.

So far it doesn't look like a good all in one integrated solution with HDMI in a small formfactor has been found. The MSI 8500GT vid card that I purchased that was detailed earlier apparently can be gotten with a low profile bracket though so I think this is a perfect solution - sounds like there's an 8600 version too.

Demo vids - am watching some video from the Planet Earth series, looks to be recorded from Discovery HD and is in MKV format - 2.3gb. This is the caves episode and I've seen one or two jitters I think but CPU isn't maxxed or anything. 45% tops with XBMC using most of that - say 80% peak. I have the Myth backend running too. Watching the deserts version now Big Grin Panning sky shots of the ground seem to be where I get jitters. Which one exactly has the birds?

- embrion - 2007-12-23

Which last string? He said that his 7150 does the job (at least overclocked one)
Although 7150 chipset sucks when compared to for example GMA X3500 (especially when RAM is used a lot as 7150 got only single channel support)

- BLKMGK - 2007-12-23

Sorry, the last few responses got me confused so I tried to summarize what I understood folks were saying. Yes, the 7150 worked for someone with an overclocked system. I believe you said the GMA950 won't work - Shader and OGL levels were too low.

It may be too early to be setting up a bunch of hardware recommendations. The devs have stated that this is still heavily under development and of "alpha" level. I'm finding it to be VERY stable on my hardware though and this last SVN pull fixed one nagging bug so I can use it for most everything on disk. Need to test catalogging music and video though. The XBMC Wiki is probably the best place to put any list of hardware IMO, I'd gladly put in what I've got working with the understanding that the specs could change.

- rodalpho - 2007-12-24

XBMC/linux is pretty stable if you stay away from stuff like locks it up. For example, changing some of the options in video decoding will do it every time. It's definitely alpha quality at this point-- usable if you're tech savvy, but not close to ready for joe ubuntu user.

As for overclocking, I have my 7150 running at 266Mhz. That's the stock speed for E6600s and the newer C2D chips run at 333. It's not really overclocked, the hardware is supposed to handle it.

Found a good sample clip! Well, it was found by someone else and I checked it out - seems to load my system HARD. http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=162729&postcount=27 mentions a video clip from the Matrix. No sound unfortunatly but I see as little as 12FPS at some pointsShocked It doesn't seem to visibly skip and I'm not sure if I've dropped frames or not (not sure how to tell) but it's obviously putting a hurting on the system. Perhaps this is a good benchmark for now? Are we likely to see vids this intensive normally? In my case I played it off the network via SMB if that matters.

Perhaps a torrent can be setup - it's not exactly lightweight! If folks want I guess we could toss it up on TPB?

A success story: I have a barebones AOpen MiniPC: http://global.aopen.com/products_detail.aspx?ctgr=74&Auno=2444&mdstl=262 with an Intel Duo Core T7700 (2.4GHz), and 2GB RAM.

Connected via SPDIF to my AMP, DVI->HDMI->Samsung 40inch 1080 HDTV, and 1080p h264 content high bitrate works flawlessly.

The box is silent (well near enough dammit), and can't fault it! Just wanted to share my 2p.

So, how much did the whole setup cost?

- gunja2k3 - 2008-01-08

Well the PC weren't 'that' much (around the £450 mark), the TV around £850, so £1300 I guess. Well the sound system was a lot too add another £800 I guess. Well it's nice anyways, will last another 5 - 6 years, as the old setup did!

- rodalpho - 2008-01-08

My XBMC box was around US$450 (£230), and is much faster too. £450 is US$900, that is not cheap. Of course I have a very large case, so it's not sexy.
